well, after meeting some of you on Sunday and seeing how Gus reacted to the others, I've decided that he does indeed deserve a pal, so have filled in my online application form and will be patienly waiting for the next addition to my family.
I had thought about it but wasnt sure how Gus would be with other dogs, but he's such a laid back character, that he didnt seem fazed at all. Think he was a bit in awe initially but he soon relaxed. I thought it would be an idea to get the form in sooner rather than later and of course, here will be the first place to have pics of the new addition.
I'm so excited for you Kim, Gus seems to have inherited his laid-back uncle's genes, and certainly seemed unfazed yesterday. Probably best to get him a pal now before he develops his uncle's 'I am the centre of the universe' attitude. Mason is quite happy with other dogs but the look of satisfaction on his face when he is back on his sofa - alone - says it all to me! Marie
well, i told Gus tonight that I had started the process of finding him a pal ... and he looked totally uninterested lol. I'm looking forward to having another one tho and have already started the hunt for another bed. Dont think 2 greyhounds would fit on Gus's!!!
Start hunting for another 2 beds! Suzie, the previous GAL follow-up co-ordinator, told me to have 3 beds for 2 dogs to stop fights over who goes where. I was a bit sceptical it has to be said but it worked! There were no possession issues over space at all. I can't wait to hear about your future arrival - fingers crossed it happens soon
Don't believe it!!lol,it's just a trick to get you to take number three, seriously though, good luck in your search for number two.there's a lovely little black girl here at the kennels ha!ha!.
i know how you feel, i have been thinking about no. 2 but i'm not sure how Rowen will react, he's very much the baby in this house, even my 3yr old calls him 'baby Rowen' lol, but if/when i do get no. 2 i'd like another black and this time maybe a girl........ we'll see lol
spoke to Celia from the Fife Greyhound rescue last night and she has a lovely wee girl called Lady that Im hoping to go and see at the weekend. Also looked at the Ibizan Hounds site and one on there called Lexi caught my eye. I also still like Suzi from GAL. Now I dont know WHAT to do lol!!!
lol at the end of the day, its whats going to be best for Gus. I'm wondering if I should hold off until he's neutered. Dont want to upset the boy too much. I looked at Lacy too and she does look nice. They all do!!! lol
You're exactly right, it does have to be what's best for Gus and maybe letting him get over his neutering first is a good idea. It is a problem with so many lovely dog needing their forever homes, so very hard to make choices when at the end of the day they are all lovely, deserving beasts.
well, been thinking long and hard about this and would really like to take someone in sooner rather than later but my feeling was to get Gus neutered first (didnt want the poor love to get frustrated!) but in the meantime get my home check done (note to self, phone Denise back). Called my vet to see about getting him booked in and was told it would cost about £100!!!! I knew it was going to be expensive but still! So now Im going to have to check my books, work out when Im going to be able to get him in, give him a chance to recover and then look at getting him a pal. Looks like Gus's wee girlie might have to wait a wee while yet
Vets are unbelievably expensive. I had a check-up for Indiana and a look a Tigerlily's toe and was given antibiotics for one dog - £90! It makes you grateful we have a national health service. Don't worry though - the right dog will come at the right time for you and Gus x
I don't know if there are any charities up there that help but you can get help down here with Speywatch. Just a thought try animal charity SSPC (not sure in Scotland)hospital type places as they might know of a similar scheme up there. With greys it is the special knock out drug needed. This is why it is expensive.Good Luck! Hope you get it sorted and indeed a new girl too Em and Chad xx
I guess that is where we are lucky here in Spain. My vet gives me a 20% discount because my dogs are rescues. Also I took my old girl (14) for a check up and her nails clipping two weeks ago, when I asked how much he said he shrugged and said "aaah you've only been here 5 minutes"!! Oddly, in a country where animals are treated so horribly, it is law that all dogs from rescue shelters must be neutered (if over 6 months old) before being rehomed. A big financial onus on us the rescue shelter, especially as we survive on donations and fund raising events only.
