Just a reminder that we will be having our annual Christmas Can Collection in both cities - Glasgow and Edinburgh on the same day - SUNDAY 16TH OF DECEMBER!! We try to go from 12-4 or 5pm depending on weather!
Glasgow will have Sauchiehall Street and Edinburgh will be on Princess Street!! Every year we take to the streets with cans and dogs and it never cease to amaze me how generous people can be! We are looking for volunteers to help out in short time frames (unless weather should be warm!) to walk dogs up and down with cans! We have always have had such a fun time bringing holiday cheer to the folk around!
So if you are up to a few hours of fun with GAL - please email Joyce or Linda!! Hope to see you there!
Thanks to Heather & Scott, Emma, Michelle, Sheila, Lita and John for braving what was a bitterly cold Princes Street today along with the pack to help raise funds. Special thanks to Steve for organising transport and letting Mason use his van for a much-needed break with Jessica. Hope everyone has thawed out.The cash is being taken to Denise by Steve for counting, along with a donation from Sheila's collection box, which has been in her hairdressers - much appreciated. Cheers everyone! Marie
Just like to say we enjoyed the can collection today and so did our hounds with all the hugs and pats they were getting. Yes, it was cold but once chatting to shoppers about the dogs the frost bite feeling in my toes was forgotten about!! A few people were interested in homing so GAL info was given to them!
this was my first stint at the can collections and i was totally amazed at how genorous everyone was. i took along a couple of boys from Rachel & Eddie's and i was amazed they were not rubbed bare by all the petting the got from passers by The banter was great and one of the policemen kept coming back to give Topper a pet, even the traffic wardens were in good form!
My favourite quote of the day was to my friend Rose who had come along to shake a tin, she's got red hair and had commented to Joyce that she thought Denise's brindle dog, Hogan, was especially handsome, to which Joyce replied "that's cause he has the same colour hair as you"! it was all taken in good fun.
Fingers crossed the pooches get a big surge in their coffers after today
Well - now that I'm thawed out I can put on an update! It was a really great day in Glasgow - and glad to hear it was the same in Edinburgh!
JUST HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU TO JOYCE, KAREN & ROSIE, ALEXIS (AND HER POOCHES) NICOLA & BOYFRIEND AND LACEY, RENE (EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE HER DOG SIGN IT WAS GREAT)KATLIN AND HER PARENTS, DONNA, DENISE & MARTIN (AND HOGAN), CHRIS, JOE & LIZ,FIONA, JACQUI & KEVIN AND NAOMI for weathering the cold day!
The atmosphere was great - at the start we had a lovely gent singing on the steps of the music hall which really brought in the crowds!
SO DO I HEAR - WHAT IS THE TOTAL????
WELL..
WE RAISED £1337!!! WHAT AN AMOUNT!!! Can't wait to hear the amount from Edinburgh!
THANKS again to Joyce for setting it up !! Let's hope the several people who took our cards will call to home a dog!!
great amount raised. Sorry I didn't come along but opted to stay indoors nice and warm didn't want bump catching a chill after all :). Here's hoping a few homes were found too.
Fantastic total! It was a very cold but very enjoyable day. It was great that there were so many homeless dogs there too - it certainly drew a lot of interest. Here's hoping for homed dogs on top of the great total
Bob loved the can collection in Edinburgh and did us proud. He was a right wee performer for the generous folk giving a donation and made sure he thanked them all personally with a lick or a lean!! We were amazed at the amount of interest and how much people were giving, kids were even giving up their pocket money! Numb feet all round but it was so worth it!
I really enjoyed the day, everyone was so kind and generous. I even heard one woman's son say " But, you don't even like dogs", as she came towards us with a handful of money - "But, I like greyhounds, they get a raw deal", she replied.
Yeah I had an excellent day at the edinburgh collection, despite the frozen hands and feet it was a great laugh especially seeing people watching emma with all her dogs!!! Hope we raised loads as well.
Steve arrived at lunchtime today with the cans from the Edinburgh collection. They are safely locked away and will be taken to Iluska the GAL Treasurer tomorrow evening to be opened and counted.
What a fantastic amount raised at the Glasgow collection!
Thank you to everyone who volunteered for both the Edinburgh and Glasgow collections. Despite the freezing temperatures how fantastic was it to meet and chat to such kind and generous people.
Thanks Joyce for your wonderful outdoor catering, your banter too is second to none!
Just heard from Iluska that the total from the Edinburgh can collection is........................... £722.99p!
There is a note lodged at the bottom of one of the cans which she's unable to get at just now, she'll let me know the final total once she's managed to poke it out.
What a brilliant amount!
Well done to all of you who volunteered and a special hug to all the hounds who had the difficult job of putting up with all the petting and the clapping and the oohing and the awwing.
Linda tells me that she's already received an application for volunteering, another for fostering and one for adoption.
Hi guys, love the photos! Any collections planned for Glasgow in the near future? What about approaching the new Silverburn Centre? I'd be happy to help out.
Oh that's brilliant the more people see greyhounds in the flesh the better. And of course they realise how gentle they are. Would love to come to next one, whenever that is.. am new.
Thanks Laura for the suggestion of the Silverburn Centre - I'll see what magic Joyce can do about persuading them to let us can collection there! Would you be interested in helping out if so?
What great photo's!! thanks again to everyone who helped out! Did I forget Lita & John?? Sorry!!! It was a fun but very cold day!
Just seen our total from the can collections in Glasgow and Edinburgh! WoooooooooooWWW! Just shows ya what can be done in a few hours. Let's do more in as many places as poss. What a brilliant crowd of people you all are.
