We have had great news about Tigger, he has just had the plate removed from his front leg which was broken when we picked him up. Tigger was found by one of our volunteers in horrendous condition. I honestly think he was hours from death. Totally emaciated, dehydrated, too weak to stand and with a broken front leg. His leg had almost certainly been broken deliberately when he was dumped. It is quite common when hunters dump a dog in the middle of nowhere that they then break one or both front legs to prevent the dogs chasing the car or finding his way home. The photos show Tigger when he first came in and one photo shows him after a couple of weeks TLC, I think you'll spot the difference! Tigger was homed to two gay guys in Holland a few months ago and is now blooming with health. Good old Tigger, stories like his make it all worth while for us here in the shelter.
What a story,I'm constantly amazed by the ability these dogs have to forgive and forget and to continue placing their trust in humans, when it's humans who caused their suffering in the first place, you can see that there is nothing but love and trust in his eyes,a big thank you to all involved in his care and recuperation and to the wonderful people who gave him his forever home.
I couldn't agree more. It never ceases to amaze me how these animals can still love after what they have been through. It's great to hear the happy endings once on a while :). Keep up the good work, the dogs deserve it.
Thank you for printing the pictures, it's heartbreaking to see how the dogs suffer, but soooo good to see them on the road to recovery. I could almost understand a hunter taking an unwanted dog out and shooting it, do they grudge the bullet or something???? SICK SICK people do these things I just wish I could find a way to make them see how wrong it is
I agree with all the above comments and like Anne I cannot understand why if a dog is not wanted they don't just shoot it. That would be a lot more humane than breaking it's legs and leaving it to starve. It is just disgusting.
Well done to everyone who was involved in Tiggers rescue (He looks such a sweet boy) God bless XX
Heard some not so good news today Valerie, about 40 dogs were sold in Ireland very recently bought by some Spaniards to be shipped to spain they also bought a lot of racing supplies too, doesn't bear thinking about,it means more poor dogs are going to need the help of shelters like yours and they will be the lucky ones,if ending up in a shelter battered and abused can be called lucky if you know what I mean.
Well at least if they have bought coloured vests for the dogs it will prevent dogs like Punky arriving at our doors. He was painted green and yellow with oil based paints so that he could be more easily spotted when racing with other dogs. I know that there is already a race track near Barcelona but the way (most) Spanish treat their dogs is unbearable. I am currently trying to catch a podenco with both front legs so badly broken she "walks" on her elbow joints. Problem is she is with milk so I have to find the puppies before I can take her away and do anything with her.
We share this world with some truly evil people, how could anyone leave a living creature to suffer, thank god for everyone involved in rescue's that some of these poor souls are saved. Tigger looks adorable it's hard to believe its the same hound in the last pic, I'm sure he will be truly spoiled in his new home, he deserves it!
I feel sorry for those 40 hounds that are being shipped to Spain, I wish there were stricter controls in place to stop this sort of thing happening.

ROLL ON MARCH
A job well done with Tigger, and a happy ending. It is so sad that all the dogs do not have the same fate as him, but sadly man will continue to be the SUPERIOR!!! race and continue destroying the very things that make life worth while. THE DOG, MANS BEST FRIEND Nora

It is just too sad to see a dog in that condition. Thank goodness you were able to rescue him. The last photo proves there can be happy endings. If only the world was more like you, it would be a much better place for all. Good luck on the other rescue and please let us know how it goes.
