Yesterday Eddie and I took charge of a lovely three year old Black,as usual! boy with a broken hock he had been handed into the vet as a pts job,his owners agreed to him being passed to a rescue, and Big Mack arrived ,a bit sorry for himself and not having eaten since being in the vets, after consulting with the vet we were able to find out that it is a staight forward break and he is bandaged and has a splint,he will need weekly dressing changes and cage rest,so after paying the bill we were able to arrange transport for him, our car has been getting repaired,so friends picked him up for us.He spent last night in the sitting room ,in his crate new duvet/duvet cover, with Alfie greyhound, senile Sam and Gala for company,we banked up the coal fire ,guard in place, and left him sleeping happily in his new bed.He wagged his tail for the first time this morning when I came down, and he's eaten something for the first time,he loves Gravy Bones, and he's eaten a can of sardines,at least I could get his pain relief into him,so we have a guest to stay at xmas, and we will spoil him along with the other homeless hounds.
Makes you wonder why his previous owners wouldn't have his break sorted, probably couldn't be bothered with vets fees ! I know my bill for Scooby is running into a few thousand now but money is no object for the animals you love so much. Shame for the poor dog but at least now though he has a cosy home & a great christmas to look forward to.
You'll have to post pics of the wee man.

It's great that GAL saved this boy and ensured he received the vetinary care he required. It's great too that Eddie and Rachel have taken him into their home to aid his recovery and receive tlc.
Saldec, it's sad but the previous owner probably didn't bother about getting his leg treated as he is no longer any use on a race track.
Thank goodness there are vets out there who contact organisations such as GAL to save these dogs.

Quite, this is the unfortunate reality of racing dogs and the reason why GAL and supporters like Rachel and Eddie and everyone else who steps in are so vital to helping. Well done guys
Macs owners had asked for him to be put to sleep, but then ok'd it for him to be passed to a rescue, knowing that his bill for treatment was going to be a reasonable amount Eddie and I have paid for his treatment and have spoken to our vets to ascertain roughly how much it will cost for the next six weeks and are going to pay the fees ourselves, our little christmas pressie to Mac and GAL.We have had offers of help with the fees but hope we wont need them.We are glad to help,it leaves more money in the kitty for any of those more serious vet emergency that arise, often at this time of year, the big fella is coming along nicely and looks happier evey day.Feel free to come and see him and all the other lovely dogs at the GAD this Saturday the eigth of december.
