Our morning walk ended in a mini-disaster when I ended up on the underside of a three-dog pile up. Tara missed me comfortably, but neglected to leave room for the other two dogs between her and me...
Zak got the worst of it. A chunk of fur and a half-inch long bit of skin was pulled loose, we think caught in a collar buckle. Being a greyhound, by the time we reached the vets 20 mins later, that had turned into a four-inch long rip. The nurse and I held Zakkie still while he was stapled back together, and given antibiotic and painkilling injections. He took all that quietly and bravely. Then his just-in-case muzzle was removed, and he *screamed* for five minutes solidly.
Zak can't wear a collar till he's healed, which is going to make walks fun. He also keeps wanting to scratch the injury, so he's now sporting a white bandage under a natty checked scarf. Gives him a rather David Nivenesque air.
We won't make the walk at Strathclyde Park tomorrow - sorry for those who were hoping to buy something from the shop. Caring for our boy needs to come first. Hopefully nothing else will come up and we'll make the GAD next weekend.
Cheers, Graham
PS - I survived all this with a slight bruise to the knee. I don't think the other two dogs even noticed the collision!
Poor Zak what a fright I got when I saw it. Hope he heals up real soon and your not to sore from your tumble. It might be a good idea to use a harness on Zak meantime, I have one here that you could borrow could post it out to you. Give Hugs to Zak Nora

We were wondering if a harness might be an idea. There's a few in the shop stock (currently cluttering up my living room) so we can always buy one. At the minute all he wants to do is sleep with occassional brief wanders round the garden, so not much of an issue so far.
Poor guy, that looks a right sore one, don't blame him for the banshee impersonation. Hope he heals well and quickly. Give him a gentle hug from us and Summer.
Fingers crossed Zac heals quickly, he may be able to scratch it, but at least he can't get his tongue/teeth at it to pull the staples out, I'm sure he'll be back to his cheeky self in no time at all

ROLL ON MARCH
Thanks for all the well-wishes. They seem to be working! Zak's barely noticing his injury, and seems mainly bemused as to why he isn't being allowed to run and bounce around with other dogs if he wants. He's also very, very upset at the harness (aka the doggy torture vest) he's made to wear instead of his trusty old collar. Zak seems to think that humans are strange animals.
We are expecting to make the GAD next Saturday. Or at least the shop and either Claire or I will, the remainder of the family depends on whether another emergency occurs in the meantime...
