As if having an ear infection is bad enough...Zak has now burst his tail. The walls, doors (which have only just been painted) now look like they are in the running for CSI's crime scene of the year award. I swear he is just so happy to see us that the tail goes in all directions hitting the wall and then when it bursts the blood splatters all over the place.
Hopefully this is the end of the doggy dilemmas this week...but what is it they say? It comes in threes...I hope not...
Poor Zac and poor you! get some tube gauze from the chemist the stuff you use for fingers, some lint or dressing and some micropore tape, bathe the tail tip with salt water, pat dry, apply a little bit of dressing secure with tape, not too much dressing or tape or you end up with a pendulum effect, cut a long piece of tube guaze, fit over the finger stool that comes in the box with it and pop that over the tip of his tail, then apply the tube gauze in the same way you apply it to a sore finger bind it all in place with some micropore tape and hopefully,if he keeps it on that will be enough to protect it and let it heal, you can also pop the end of the tail inside a small hair curler or syringe casing.Hope this helps.Change it regularly, and of course if you are worried speak to your vet.
We use the old fashioned plastic hair curlers to protect the tips of damaged tails. It works really well once the dog gets used to the fact that its there.
Poor Zak, we will keep our fingers crossed that there are no more mishaps. I have heard about the hair curlers idea before never had to use it but hear it works. Nora

I hope that things are going better at both ends for Zak! Having worked at the SSPCA - so many of the greyhounds that came in ended up having to get their tails abit amputated. Now - as soon as a greyhound comes in - they put a platice tube around their tail so that it doesn't even get a chance to break! They look pretty unusual as if they are using their tail as radar dectors but it has been working..
