Tara's Long Sleep to Recovery
Permalink Closed

Thanks to everyone who sent our poor Tara their thoughts and wishes. I thought I'd give you all a quick update. Her surgery went very well, and she should make a full recovery. But first, she's got SIX WEEKS of "no exercise beyond the absolute minimum needed for the loo". I'm not sure how we'll get through that...

Tara and her Big Bandage

Tara's currently a bit uncomfortable, a bit bored, and sporting the biggest bandage you ever saw. Lots of family and neighbours have been in to see her, which is keeping her amused, and she's currently playing the "throw my toy away so Mummy will fetch it back" game.

We're very keen to find new ways to keep Tara amused - boredom looks like being her biggest danger. Any suggestions very, very welcome!

Cheers,
Graham

The bone type things that are stuffed with a sort of baked pate helped my Lulu through this stage. It seems very daunting but you will get there. The discomfort will soon wear off that is good news on the one hand as you know she is feeling better but it becomes a bit more difficult to keep her quiet!! Great to hear that all went so well.

So glad to see Tara at home all safe and well. It is going to be a very long haul for you all and I am sure she will be more than happy to let you spoil her for a while. All the very Best. smile Nora

Awww poor Tara looking utterly sorry for herself. I agree with the stuffed bones and Kong things, they're great for keeping them amused in a semi stationary postion :), hope she has a speedy and good recovery.

Take it easy Tara and be patient. Get better soon. Sounds as though you will be exercising your teeth on all those bones & treats more than anything else!

Pilgrim asked me to send Tara get well wishes, he can't wait to meet up when she's all better again. Until then he's promised to stay well away!

A wee suggestion to keep her occupied is to put together a box of smelly items. For example an old jumper that's been worn but not washed for her to snuggle up to when you can't be there. A couple of large sticks from the park, some shells or stones from the beach, a toy that belongs to a doggy pal (Pilgrim has offered to donate his rope chew). I'm sure there are lots of other things you could think of to add. Friends/family could all be asked to add items to Tara's smelly box too.
