I had such a productive week last week on the homing front. Hopefully three of our dogs have found homes to go to in England. All three potential homes are experienced sight hound people and I am soooo excited about this. All three dogs have been with us here in Spain quite some time and have not had any local interest expressed in them whatsoever. In the case of poor Petra, well she has been with us since she was 10 weeks old and she will be 2 years old next week! I am so happy for her, this particular piece of news really made my Christmas.
Petra, only 2 years old and has lived all her life in our shelter
Shula a Nottinghamshire bound Sloughi type
Lexi, a wonderful blue eyed Podenco who could be off to Surrey in March
What wonderful news, an excellent Christmas for all three, have to admit when you said three I was hoping to see wee Ozzie in that list I'm sure his turn will come soon.

ROLL ON MARCH
We just simply cannot home sight hounds over here which is why we went down the route of the ibizan hound website and trying to promote the dogs in the UK. Whilst here they are two a penny and seen all over the place scavenging or squashed in roads, you very rarely see podenco type dogs in Britain. In her almost two years with us one person has expressed interest in Petra and that was a Spanish hunter and we do not home to them. She has been on our Dutch website for almost a year and, again, nothing! Also, Lexi is absolutely stunning with those blue eyes and she has been here since June with not one person asking about her. As for poor little Ozzie - he has been here a year with no takers but he is a firm favourite with everybody who helps at the shelter, he is such a lovely little dog.

Ozzie loves the children who come to help at the shelter
I can understand why you don't home to some people over there, but with such stunning dogs you'd think people in the UK and Europe would be clammering to get them!!.Does the adoption process put some people off do you think?Wee Ozzie is a cracker I love/want a hairy so much!!!I hope all the homes over here come off and the word about these gorgeous dogs spreads ,I'm sure they will be great ambassadors and will encourage folk to think about having one, maybe some grey owners will cosider having one.Keep us posted.
To date we have homed 6 podencos to the UK and thus far all the homings have been really successful. The first one left us in October of last year and since then we homed a few more. We realised that people in the UK are really interested in these dogs and so launched the specific website. Most importantly the hits we get tend to be from people who understand the needs and demands of owning a sight hound which is great. The lady hopefully taking Petra has a retired racing grey and the lady hoping to take Lexi has 3 greys.
Three very beautiful dogs so glad that they have found homes after such a long time, I guess you must be happy for them but will feel sad when they leave. All the very best and hope Ozzie finds his own home soon, he looks a right little charmer. Nora

Oh as I am new just really got to read up on Annabel's Story, and she is the most adorable wee girl ever, Corky is too obviously, but she is a sweetie. In York we used to walk with a Man that was a bit scary at first but he had 3 dogs brought back from Spain 1 teeny little X and a spaniel x and a Podengo, which to all of us was the most unusual looking dog we had ever seen. but intimidating that he was, they were all street dogs and he only got the Podengo as she had got herself stuck in some railings and he freed her but as a consequence she followed him everywhere. He was so fussy over her he would stress if any rambunctious dogs came near (er mine). Loved those dogs to bits and they are having the best of walks and good food as the Podengo is a tad chubby. So the moral of the story is... big scary skinhead...soft heart.
