GROUP SEARCH FOR DEV
Permalink Closed

Would it be better to get together on Sunday to search for Dev(if he's not caught by then)instead of going along to the walk?A GAL rep. could still be there but it would be better to try to steer people towards searching for him when we know we can get a number of people together at the same time.Just a thought.

Rachel.

Hi

Great idea. Am available on Sunday. Will also try and get out tomorrow Saturday. Am hoping that if I get a sighting., my lurcher Mick will race towards Dev and hopefully stop/ slow him. Then lure then / him back to food etc.

We'd need to set a meeting time / place. Have maps etc and mobiles so messages can be sent quickly.

Charles

I'm currently at home feeling ill but if I'm on the mend by Sun, I'll join too. My school (although currently in Bishopbriggs) is a Kirkintilloch school and the kids come from Kirki, Torrance, Milton of Campsie, Lennoxtown, Twechar and surrounding areas. Quite a few live on farms too so I'll be able to put out the word to them on Mon.

John and I would be willing to meet on Sunday to do some searching, but we need to go to Strathclyde park first at 11.00am to collect some things. So we could manage to be in Glasgow at 12 noon earliest.

Charles, Rachel, please post when and where people may be meeting up on Sunday and we'll come along.

Hi,

Dev Search Sunday 6 January at Torrance

I had a look at the area around Torrance / Lennoxtown / Kirkintilloch. It was pouring with cold rain so no hound would venture far from shelter.

Sugguest the we meet on the Torrance side of the Torrance roundabout at 12.00. I will be there at 11.00 for those who can start earlier.

For those that do not know area Torrance can be reached from Bishopbriggs foolowing the A893 north. through first roundabout . Nest roundabout follow A807 to Torrance - turn right at the Torrance roundabout. Sugguest we park on side road to the left at entrance to village - if safe.

Torrance can also be reahed via A 807 from Milngavie. The B822 from Lennoxtown. The A893 from Kirkintilloch then A807.

Please bring smelly dog food, slip collars / leads, mobiles, torches and high viz clothing. water proofs ( roads narrow - heavy traffic) Flasks and food as required

Hi,I am about as tired as I can get ,had two emergency trips to my vet Saturday night thats ,three in quick succession,it's meant little or no sleep and today we all went on a huge search for Dev boy, first can I thank all those who took part,a big thanks to Karen for her regular trips over from Dunoon, also Kathleen who goes off on her own when she gets the chance Williams mum who has met some unpleasant people on her travels, today there was Karen, myself,Charles and his lovely lurcher Mick,Dave Aitchison,Lita and John plus their dogs,Lea from Perth, and a couple of ladies whose names I didn't get,we met up at Torrance and walked up to the Lennoxtown junction where Dev had been spotted crossing the road,Charles,Lita,John and dogs continued straight up the hill,Dave Karen and myself set off to the right heading towards the two golf couses, one of the ladies who I think lived locally?went off in her car to visit the travellers site, before she set off she told us about some of areas where people walk dogs ie the disused rail line, whilst walking from Torrance to the junction we knocked on doors and called in at farms and spoke to dog walkers.Half way between the junction and the golf couses we came across some pretty dodgy steps down to the old rail line,we ventured down them and split up and set off to see what we could see,Dave saw some golfers and chatted to them,Karen and I wandered along but there wasn't much to see, lots of evidence of cattle in the field but we didn't go looking to closely, the weather wasn't too bad but when the showers came on it was cold and miserable,we got to the golf course, and Dave went off to talk to the golf pro at the shop,Karen and I went to the adjacent farm and spoke to a lady who had collies and terriers, she had seen the ad for Dev in the papers and said that her dogs had been noisy at night and that she would keep a look out for Dev,Dave then joined us and we walked back to the junction, met up with the others and filled each other in on what/where,who we saw,and how we left things with people.John and Lita set off in their car,I think the travellers reported seeing a black dog,we did get a report to say that a black dog had been seen nosing arounds some bins outside a pub in Kirkie,on the 5th,so we trecked back to Torrance had a quick hot drink and met up with Caroine Bain,Dave set off in his car and we all set of for Kirkie,we parked up in an industrial estate,Caroline, Charles,Karen and myself now know every pub, bookies, takeaway and cash machine in Kirkie, lol all the Bookies took details, one lady told me she has friends with two greys, she saw them with a third dog, turns out the third dog was loose and just padding along behind them, could this have been Dev? We met up with the lady who has been putting up and printing off posters and has been keeping in contact I think with Charles, she was on her way to the pub where the dog had been seen,we took some of her posters with us and went in to shops and places that were open given that it was a Sunday we spoke to some amount of people,we got wet, very wet at times in Kirkie and we all felt awful leaving knowing that Dev is out there somewhere and we were leaving him behind.Caroline accosted a taxi driver as well and he's going to pass info regarding Dev around, lol,I also have to say thanks to all the people on the Greyhound Pals site who have been out searching ,thanks, the more eyes and ears the better, thanks Dawn for gathering info from various people and passing it on to us today via my mobile, thanks to the fireman who reported seeing the dog outside the pub,and now I'm going off to have a cup of tea and thank my lucky stars that my and the Gal dogs here are safe and loved, and hopefully we will be re united with Dev soon. Further searches planned soon keep reading the forum.

Rachel and the Dev Detectives,ha ha.

Well it sounds like you've covered just about everywhere, and told just about everyone, with all that you have done surely there will be a fresh sighting soon and then efforts can be concentrated in that one area, is there anyone local who lives in the area who could put food out at night near the pub where he was seen, to try to get him into the habit of going there? just a thought!

Dev isn't comfortable around men and i don't think he will hang about long if there are lots of people about, especially a pub.A couple of people said that they saw a stray black dog with a collar on,a dog bigger than a lab,Dev isn't that tall but was quite stocky. We wondered if someone had got a collar over his head but just couldn't hold him. I didn't know if my ramblings made sense I was so tired,I couldn't even spell right!!lol.will keep posting all the info. we get as we search.hmm.gif

Charles, I'm really sorry I couldn't make it today. I'd have been there if it had been at all possible. I hope some of the other GAL members managed to put in an appearance.

How did it go? Any word on the poor lad?

Hi Charles

I've had a couple of dental appointments in Kirkintilloch this week so I've been out and about driving and looking for Dev and passing on his details. The kids from school who live locally are also aware.

Let's hope we hear of another sighting soon.

Sorry I haven't been able to help with search over the past week or to contact some of the folk I had hoped to in the area of the last reported sighting - family crisis/bereavement. I have alerted colleagues and friends working in the area. I wondered about handing out some posters/photos to local TOA taxi drivers at the ranks at Bishopbriggs Cross and Asda, as they travel all over the place? Maybe someone could do that? Good luck finding Dev.

Have been phoning SSPCA at Milton and Cardonald each day they are open over the last couple of weeks although I realise that others are most probably doing the same, but at least that keeps it at the forefront of their minds. Also I gather from the forum that he has tats so presumably they would contact GAL right away. Mentioned to someone at Milton incident where someone phoned in saying they had found black Greyhound, but had never phoned back. She said no-one there knew anything about that, but between Christmas and New Year man had lost 2 Greys one of which was black. Each was hqnded in to police by a different member of public and by coincidence ended up in Milton where owner collected them. Perhaps this explains mystery of non-call back.

I think about Dev a lot of the time each day, but do not know where to begin to search for him, as it has been so long since there has been a potential sighting and in the Torrance/Lennoxtown/Kirkintilloch area it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack! Annabel's idea about alerting Taxi Drivers seems like a good one - as she says, they travel all over and may even mention it when chatting to passengers. This made me think that it might be an idea to see if they would put up a poster in the local Refuse Collection depot staffroom;I spole to bin men in Kirkintilloch a couple of weeks ago, but that was only one lorry and they'll have forgotten all about it by now. i also wondered if the local sorting office would put one up in their staffroom. Have no idea where these places are as don't live in that area - perhaps someone out there lives locally?

Had taken poster to Tesco's in Milngavie the other day, but board spaces too small to take it, so stuck it on front of my trolley though that was a bit of a wasted effort as it's below eye-level. Would have stuck it on back of my rucksack if I had anticipated this. Was working on principle that any publicity is good. Have also thought of attaching poster to William's coat and walking through Kirkintilloch area with him as this would surely attract attention, but would require dry, reasonable weather. By the way, it might be an idea to check that posters already put up are still there as when was at Vet yesterday discovered poster down as they did not know whether dog had been found - gve them another one.

Now for my final and you may think crazy idea! Does GAL have a megaphone or similar? One way of reaching loads of people at once would be to tour through centre of likely areas when busy on a Saurday with large poster of Dev displayed on car, explaining that he is missing. This should get people talking beyond the event and if nothing else get GAL some publicity. However, suspect you may have to get permission to do this sort of thing - noise pollution etc.

Hi, Thanks for everything you are doing to keep the level of awareness up,the story about the dog in Milton sounds as if that's where the confusion arose from. The problem with these homes is that they will only talk to the dogs owner or in the case of a rescue /charities dog the person who has power of Attorney, when Sammy went missing from here at the kennels I was onto every person/oranisation you could imagine, when I reported him to SSPCA,they took all the details of Sammy and ourselves,he ran off on the Thursday, got bumped by a car, the person who bumped him took him to a Glasgow vet who in turn passed him to Cardonald. Not one person contacted Eddie or myself,I had even called them to see if he was there and they denied any knowledge of him!!!They had his tattoos as well, plus a full discription of his coat collar and muzzle. The first inkling we got was a call from them to Linda, they didn't say why they were calling, problem was Linda was at work and it was a Friday,Linda couldn't get them 'til late Saturday morning and it was later that afternoon that we knew he was safe, they would not talk to me,and they said that they would not even have asked us to I.D. him as we were not his owners(only GAL are)and we had no power of attorney, so for all the dogs live here and we are their carers we are classed by this organisation as nobody's, not good for the dogs is it.?I have no faith in them and I believe that they don't have the animals best interest at heart and having talked to a lot of people who work for them I'm even more disallusioned,so Dev could be there even though you call every day, your'e not his owner so they probably wouldn't tell you if he was there.Anyway please keep up your good work,I'll be trying to get out and about again soon, once I get a few other things sorted out.hmm.gif

Rachel.
