We have been looking to add a grey to the household for a few months now. We have attended the december walk at Strathy park, had a home visit and are just about ready to adopt.
We met Stitch and Amelie on the walk, and Janice and I fell for both of them... (Whoever just adopted Stitch just got themselves a very handsome boy)
We are hoping to be sorted out with a grey (or black? ) hound in the very near future.
HI Blair and Janice, sorry you missed out on Stitch,he was lovely, don't worry there are lots of dogs to be had and we have some lovely ones here at the kennels, you must so excited, hope you get your Grey soon.
I can confirm what Midas told you - I have a real soft spot for all the residents in kennels at present - especially Eugene, Malbay, Jack - aw hell and the rest!
We are meeting Amelie on Saturday hopefully just to make sure that she likes our sof/flat. So watch this space.
We are both excited about the new addition. My family has a rescued greyhound (Shadow) who has been with them for a few years now. He is such a loving dog.
Hee hee, that's what you think - all greys make the sofa their own in the time it takes to make a cup of tea. In fact that's probably when they'll make their move!!!! I am envious, I wanted to take home little Amelie, but i'm not allowed another one just yet
Welcome Janice and Blair and congratulations on deciding on a grey you will not regret it. Hope all goes well on Saturday with Amelie and you must tell us all about her. Nora

Hi, I remember meeting you and your family at the walk in December. Good luck with your new addition. I'm sure Shadow will enjoy having a grey/black mate also. It is definitely sooooo exciting to take your first doggy home and see it settling in and enjoying the comforts of home life. Look forward to seeing you both and your new addition at another walk or event.
Hello Again, hope all goes well with Amelie,I understand she may come here before going for her op?IF you decide to keep her on Saturday and want to chat about the op or the recovery period, feel free to pm us or chat with Linda, the ops not too bad at all and they bounce back quite quickly, you will need to restrict her to lead exercise for about ten days, but anything you want to chat about, just ask.
We ordered a crate tonight and a couple of 10' bolt on dog bowls to keep her fed and watered... We really are looking forward to seeing her on saturday.
We are looking also for a way to get everything a dog needs in place it would be perfect if we can manage it this weekend, however its looking like we will have to wait a few more days.
I will post some photos of our new dog when we get her.
Hi, Janice here, Blair's partner. I was out with Amelie on the GAL walk in Dec and she was very interested in the swans, as well as a few of the other birds that were out that day!
Is her interest in swans ornithological or gastronomical?
I mean character in a good way, Amelie was with us on the very successful can collection in Edinburgh over Christmas only a few days after she had been found and she was brilliant, with all the people who stopped to pet her and say hello. Many groos are nervous at that stage and unsure of themselves but Amelie had a wonderful confidence, she clearly knows who she is, and I thought she was a star. And as Michelle says swans etc should look out, cos she is not afraid of anything
ROFL.. I think it is still illlegal to have swan in your fridge unless you are the Queen.
Update...
We just couldn't face the thought of Amelie coming here to see us and then having to go back to kenels... Although I am sure that they are luxury living in doggy terms.
So we have been calling in favours, sweettalking parents and Amelie is coming to stay with us for good from this weekend.
We are off to buy a bed and other sundries to make her welcome.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I think it is fair to say that the welcome we received and the passion that people display here for their greys accelerated our decision. Not to mention the fine work that the Gal volunteers have done.
HOORAY!!! (though blast it that i could't have her!). I'm really glad, she deserves it because she really s a lovely dog.
Yes I do think you'll have to lock the fridge and probably the dustbin if she's anything like mine! oh and watch when your eating your dinner an unattended plate is tantamount to giving her it - especially if your having swan!
She has a good sniff around all of the flat of course.
After Iluska and Andy left she kinda wandered around aimlessly for a bit, not quite sure what to do with herself. She gave a whine or two at the door. So we took her for awalk around Queens park to tire her out. She certainly enjoyed that.
When we got back she was still a bit listless so after a bit of a photo session, she took another search of the flat...
What for? Well a bed of course. She is bright obviously, but not bright enough to realise that the lovely new dog bed belongs to her. She tried out a couple of options. The first being our bed. That couldn't be allowed!
I tried to move her from the bed but she resisted. As I was a bit more persistant she gave a yelp which sounded like an attack alarm and my wrist got a glancing blow from one of her teeth...
She did get down though, and after seeking a reconcilatory cuddle from me she then went in search of option 2. This time it was the couch she tried for size. A quick NO! from Janice and she jumped back down this time (thank goodness, she is a quick learner clearly).
Option 3. Third time lucky from our clever girl. Onto the dog bed (it cost enough) and she got loads of praise and a couple of treats.
She also has a favourite squeeky already. Its a very squeeky toy indeed. She has tried out another, but the squeekiest toy seems to be her favourite.
She is already very affectionate and loves her cuddles, we both think that she is going to be very happy here.
Isn't she just beautiful? Her coat is very soft as well, just has to be petted.
She's gorgeous, good luck in getting your bed and sofa back if she is like any of ours they gradually wear you down, looking forward to hearing all about her

ROLL ON MARCH
Well done on saying no to the bed and the couch! It's taken me a year and a half to give up on the bed but they still have access to the couches! She looks lovely - a really silky coat too. Let us know how she gets on as she becomes braver in her new surroundings
Well she did not enjoy being locked (Janice doesn't like the term "locked up") up in the kitchen last night. A fair bit of crying to get out. It was hard to ignore it and we had a fractured sleep.
This morning she was delighted to get out.
She is trying very hard to claim a bed for herself. But does jump back down if you catch her with an early NO! before she settles. This morning I did find her lying on the spare room bed and she was reluctant to move. I had to force her off.
She came face to face with our robot vacume cleaner today. Her reaction was favourable, it did not seem to phase her out as it bumped around the hallway. She did not want to eat it, or get too close but she did not fear it either.
We found details of her previous career on the web today.
WELCOME, sorry I'm a bit late getting to this thread she looks in great shape, well done you for keeping the bed and sofa, I'm one of those bad owners who doesn't have dogs on the furniture or in the bed. However, puppies on your lap while you sit on the sofa is ok. Hope to see you some time.
Oh I always have to physically move Stumpy off the bed, and he has bared his teeth to OH before, but bear in mind as with mine, she will have never had this kind of life before. She will get it and she is BEAUTIFULL. Loved the photos. After all the settling in has gone it will be great, wait and see. Oh you are much more disciplined than us too, just going up to try and find a spot on the bed next to OH and Rufus, Stumps now goes into his own at end of bed. How tough am I?
In Amelie's defence, she was staying with Steve Leyland for a bit and I am pretty sure she will have got on his bed and the sofa he's a total pushover, so don't be too hard on the poor girl. She is looking great and is clearly quick to learn, I'llbe interested to hear how the no sofa rule goes...most of us crack in the end! Welcome home Amelie Marie
I dont think that Amelie is going to need much defending to be honest. She is quite capable of standing up for herself!
She snarled at Janice earlier, although Janice did try and move her bed while she was on it... We are learning all the time..
On a more positive note, she has started to ask for walks we think...
When we muzzled her yesterday and today she was rubbing her muzzle vigourously on our legs, on door frames etc. However today we have noticed that she seems to do this rubbing thing when we are near the door. Particularly tonight, I had my coat on to go outside for a ciggie. Amelie is not the only one who has to follow the house rules. . Amelie started doing the same rubbing thing to my leg, and to the door frames near to and including the front door. We had thought before she was just trying to get rid of or settle the muzzle to a comfortable position but are now hoping that she is training us to walk her when she needs to go.
She is going to have the house to herself tomorrow. we have our fingers crossed this will go smoothly.
