This might seem a bit of an odd question but maybe you can help.
We are having to move out of our rented flat and rent another however finding letting agents who don't have a blanket ban on pets in the house (which really annoys me and I think is a ridiculus stance) is really difficult. Do any of you know of any agents who allow dogs?
Fingers cross you find something. When I had to rent in the past with my cat I always kept quiet about her. It was ridiculous, whenever an inspection was arranged I had to go round with a fine toothcomb chasing every cat hair and then put her in the boot of my car until they had left!!! Why so many agents have blanket bans is beyond me, every case should be considered individually and they charge such big deposits which I'm sure cover any damage. Good Luck Marie
I actually found an agent yesterday who are at least willing to ask the house owner if they are happy to have dogs in their house so that's a step in the right direction and they are going to keep a look out for pet friendly flats for us. It doesn't seem so bad now!
I was more annoyed as when I asked about one place the woman reacted as though i'd asked to keep a mass murderer in the house, perhaps i should have said I was a junkie with 5 kids, I don't think they can ban them in the same way they do pets.
Ahh well, we'll all just have to go and live with my mum and dad
Not too bad, fortunately we don't have to move out until May but with having Jet i thought i'd start early! so have not seen too much yet.
At the moment we kind of have to hide Jet due to the cover all no pets policy, although the actual owner of the flat doesn't mind - on the once a year inspection we have to take him out for a big walk and hide his stuff! I don't really want to keep doing that, especially as i'd like to see about getting jet a friend at somepoint.also it's too stressful trying to hide a greyhound!
Och... That's too stressful for you. I have had to think about this stuff in the past amd am lucky not to now, but it's not fair. Animal lovers usually in my experience mean nice, compasionate people. Ok some exceptions of course.... But on the whole.
Well it's both good and bad, we have found about 3-4 properties who are happy for Jet to live there so we're off in the next week to look at them.
However their ideas about dogs seem to be so off the mark, i spoke to one company who said it wasn't suitable for a dog as it had no outside space, i pointed out them the reason i was choosing that area was that it was less than 5 mins walk to both arthurs seat and the meadows and on the contrary had lot's of outdoor space. They also appear to think that as soon as we leave the house he'll proceed to lose any bladder/bowel control and will do the toilet all over the place.
One of the people who are willing to let us have the dog there (because we were honest about him!!) are pretty much pricing us out of it as they want additional £150 onto the deposit and promises to move and pay re-rental fees of £235 if they receive ANY complaints of noise about him. I'm confident they won't but what if we live above some crackpot who can hear a fly fart 2 miles away??
God, why don't they act this way with children? They are much more messy and destrctive in property than Jet could ever bother to be and frankly things such as a deposit should be covering this - it's what it's for- we shouldn't have to pay extra.
Success at last!!!! We have found a nice new flat in the Blackford hill area (so loads of lovely long walks for Jet!) and the owner likes dogs and is happy for us to keep Jet there! Yee Haa. Letting agents, who needs the greedy b****rs!!!!!
I know, so much land - how can it be covered by only one greyhound - I think Jets needs a friend!!! and now we are allowed dogs in the house maybe we can get him one If we can find one that will put up with his badly behaved ways we'll either have two well behaved dogs or two neurotic mad ones.
Maybe it'll calm him down. (She said hopefully). Or like me you'll have two badly behaved ones wayhaay. Seriously it made a difference to Rufus, I mean he was full on slavering and snarling for the first 6-8months, but I kept walking him with other dogs and when we got Henry (avatar) he was so traumatised and terrified, that he didn't challenge Rufus. So Rufus got a bit better. Now he just slightly annoying.
That's brilliant news Michelle! Why don't you think about fostering a second dog to see how Jet reacts? That's my plan when I move til I see if Mason is better with a pal - and find the right one, and GAL can always use foster homes, even for a short time. Marie
