I know!!! Watching the commentators justify it as a gundog afterwards was hilarious, apparently it derives from a working spaniel and to quote one 'would probably be good at it job if its hair was cut' ?!/. Its very pretty but really?? I am a great believer in dogs being dogs whatever the size, but I just don't see chihuahuas that way, particularly the one that one with its particularly domed head. On a plus front I do thinkthe gorgeous Samoyed who took a place tonight is just to die for and if its not up against our girl then I hope it wins. Marie
Yes but what about the GSD the "perfect" GSD with the massively sloping back. If you didn't know better you would be rushing it to the vets. AND no rotties placed.... never do, it would go a long way to helping with their image if they got somewhere. I really like Australian Cattle Dogs they look a bit gnarly but they are real working dogs and the Great Dane was a beaut.
Yes, it would have been great to see a Rottie placed! I remember being so taken with them years ago when I was at a dog show in Ayr, and the only two I ever meet now are great big fabulous softies. One Crufts contender that fascinated me was the Neapolitan Mastiff, an ugly and probably unappealing dog to most people I imagine, but then I've always really loved elephants and tortoises and it is quite prehistoric looking! Do wonder though if it's prone to eye/skin/breathing problems - in which case I'd be totally anti-breeding.
I was pretty much horrified at this dog, wait not at him cos he was a sweetie, but when they showed pics of the breed as they used to be then the difference was scary, what good does that excess skin do? The health issues must be enormous. Not unappealing as such but sad I think. The personality of he breed sounds great but why all this excess dog?? You could make a new one out if the skin.
Great! and was delighted to see Staffie got 4th. in the Terrier group, then immediately began worrying about even more irresponsible breeding. Another big plus was that rescue Greyhounds got a mention albeit a small one.
I was glad to see the groos get a mention as well and happy they didn't mention the fact greyhounds are on the KC's 'endangered list' but focussed on the rehoming issue for racers instead. As usual greyhound didn't make the cut in the hound group, although my friend who was over watching was unimpressed with the entry telling me "your boy's much more handsome than that" - maybe but probably not as well behaved in the show ring!! Was good to see a whippet in the last few even if it was the wrong one, but how gorgeous was the beagle? Marie
Well as many of you would have guessed Rag did not win Crufts lol. What an experience it was fantastic we may not have got placed but it was so amazing to be there and not to be missed. Rag was a little star and did everything asked of her. Thak you to everyone and to the live support at the show..............here,s to walking the green carpet in 2009 with any luck. Nora and Rag

Rag was a wee star,so was her mum,re the G.S.D. he is the world Seiger and conforms to the breed standard 100% he does not actually have a massively sloping topline,a G.S.D. in stance is presented with one hind leg extended and this gives the sloping appearance the breed will stand in this position naturally, the girl handling the dog completely blew it,she cost the dog his chance of winning the group, the judge is a G.S.D. specialist and would have given him serious consideration had he been correctly presented.I feel sorry for her she became overawed with the occasion and in his homeland this dog will also be a working/sport dog,to do so well indoors is impressive we very rarely show G.S.D.'s indoors we show outside regardless of the weather as they are a working dog who need room to move.Roll on next year, wee Rag will be back to strut her stuff.Going to book up accomodation soon, lol.
Rag did you proud Nora and I can't wait til next year when I'm sure she'll be back. Thanks for the exxplanation about the GSD Rachel, we were discussing the slope as well as we watched! It was a great show andall the more fun knowing one of our own was there Marie
