Tonight Mason and I went through our usual last thing at night routine. I said 'time to go round the block' and he looked at me from the sofa. I put my coat on, got his collar, coat and lead and said it again, and he looked at me from the sofa.
I put his collar round his neck as he lay there...same thing. I opened the front door and, as usual he stirred and slowly sauntered into the hall, looked at me and turned his back to go into the kitchen for a sip of water and nibble of his food while I stood like an idiot as I usually do.
Tonight, however, as he turned towards the kitchen I made the same disapproving tut of 'aat,at,at' that he gets when he tries to put his nose in a stranger's pocket/bag/etc as he turned away and to my amazement he stopped, looked at me and changed his mind.
He trotted straight up, stood while I put his coat and lead on and came without hesitation. I was bursting with silent pride!!
Isn't it ridiculous how those moment when they actually do what they should and accept your authority surprise you.
Marie
PS He's back on the sofa!

Wouldn't know - still waiting for Tigger to show some sort of acknowledgement that I'm the boss. rofl.gif

Kidding, she's done it once or twice. What a good lad Mason is. aww.gif

Bryn is a bit like Mason, aloof and more interested in his dog pack. So when he comes when I call him and does the 'sit' when asked, I go all aww

In the mornings Bryn greets all the dogs first and then comes to me to get his rusk, Bella gets the biggest kisses from him and although she makes wee gruff noises, she doesn't move away and her tail wags like madwink It is the wee things that get to you, when Bryn was throwing up the other night he came for a cuddle and I was in heavenbiggrin

ps It was probably something he scoffed that caused him to throw up, swallowing a chicken wing whole and eating a chilli plant (and all the chillies) He was back to his old self about 1hr after he'd been sick.

I use that 'aat at at' noise with Bryn, he stops what he's doing and walks off or spits out what he's eating and goes to his bedblankstare if he is eating something nice he will try and swallow it while running offfurious

Rufus thanks whoever feeds him after he has eaten, every time. He has always placed his head upside down on your lap and leans right in amazes everyone. But when he has eaten he will seek out the person who has fed him and do it before going to lie down, and before he walks away nibbles the end of your nose. Very sweet.

Hmm not sure if I would like the nose nibbles...... Red's breath is something to behold I tell you.  As to whether Rufus is thanking you hmmm Red just uses me or anyone else to wipe his chops on. lol.  Keep thinking I should start getting out a flannel but I really don't want to do that ( I know I know I am lazy) but now I can say I am not lazy just letting Red say thanks. lol

Yeah I get the face wipe on my jeans, sofa, carpet etc. No really Rufus is a kind of odd dog anyway, he is like an Old Soul like he's been here before. I can ask Rufus to do something not using any key words and he gets it for e.g. me on bed reading, Rufus sprawled acrooss rest of bed, Stumpys head appears at the side of the bed and without looking up from my book or making any arm movements I say "move up pal and give the wee guy a space" and up he gets huffing in exasperation and moves up next to me, lies down again with theatrical sigh. You have to see this kind of thing to believe it. He has walked up to people sitting on park benches and done the upside down head thing, I always apologise but they are always smitten with him. Mind you it all goes out the window when I am yelling at him to come back and stop bugging the rottie. Oh and I am totally addicted to hs breath really, ah that fishy loveliness.

Fishy breathdoh Mason comes to be winded after he has his dinner and burps sardine breath in your face as a thanks!
Sometimes he can just be so thrawn though. H regularly 'misunderstands' the go to bed command and reinterprets it as  'lie on the couch'.
Last night I told him to go lie on the couch - and he looked at me, turned heel and stalked off to bedweirdface
Honestly...

Bob has recently taken to trotting off to have one more mouthfull of food and a sip of water when we get his jacket out to go for a walk. He'll be by the door about to get his jacket put on, and then he'll suddenly run off for somehting to eat. He never used to do it. - don't know if he's hoping the bowl will have magically re-filled by the time he comes back, or whether he thinks he'll be out for ages and won't get a bite to eat until he comes back?!

That's exactly Mason, he didn't used to do it but now almost every time. Sometimes I let it slide but I do feel its kind of a "I'll come when I'm ready" attitude so stomp my feet - the other night was the first time he listened though!

What a beautiful moment smile.gif Indiana surprised me the other day. He is so motivated by food that when I arrived home the other day I wasn't expecting a welcome b/c OH had just put their food out. He didn't appear instantly but obviously thought better of it and ran full pelt to say hi and full pelt back to his bowl - bless aww.gif
