Quite shocked to read this actually. We havent really been accessing the GAL site for some time, but i thought i would have a quick look tonight (so much to do so little time). I've got to say that i find it a bit saddening that someone who has apparently done so much to spread the positive word on greys would have any co-workers who would say "Hmm, this might generate some mail!" Oh dya think???? I just find it hard to believe that anyone would print this in a dog magazine.
Having said that, i think there are alot of folks that arent responsible for their dogs (and that covers all breeds of dog). We know pretty much how our two will react in most situations but they are never off lead (except in the enclosed run in the park in Glasgow, at my grandfathers, or Sally gets let off on the beach occasionally) as the running and prey drive can be high you never know when they will stop running. I dont think anyone should ever 100 percent trust any animal (or human for that matter, especially tv vets) in any situation, however, i think most nasty situations arise through bad decisions or guidance on the owners part. I know that the last tris to the vet with Dan was because of other dog owners not having any control over a mad dog on the loose.
