Charlie Week 1
Permalink Closed

Well its now the end of week 1 with Charlie, and what a wee it has been!!

On Saturday morning I went down to get him for his first walk and as his wee tail was damaged, he was wagging it so much it bust open, with panic phone call to Linda, i managed to get a sock over it to prevent the blood going everywhere - the boy does like to wag his tail, bleeing or not!! ha ha. Anyway the blood stopped after a wee bit and after a couple of days of bathing in warm salty water the sock was removed and it seems to have healed quite well.

When out for walks he is an absolute star, great on lead, friendly with strangers and other dogs, he does get interested in the foxes / cats outside, but saying 'leave it, come on Charlie' he continues happily to walk by your side.

Then I think it was either wednesday or Thursday, I was allowing him freedom of the house, with muzzle on. I guess he got too close to Pepper the cat, and chase happened and when I got Charlie back to the living room noticed his paw was bleeing, the poor boy ripped out a claw from one of his front toes!! OUCH! The cat is fine of course. So again applying pressure and wrapping it up the blood stopped. Luckily Linda was taking him to the vets on Friday anway because of his tail, so think Charlie was just making sure the visit was worthwhile.

Although he chased the cat, I think its more due to the cat running from him, because when he does see the cat when you say 'leave it' he looks away and listens to you. He is a clever boy and learning what 'go lie down' means. He is still very excitable, but who can blame him, he has a great foster mum ha ha.

Friday he came back from the vets with anitibiotics and metacam for his paw, tail and shoulder - had noticed he limped on his leg slightly and only occasionally. He also had a tube over his tail to help protect if for a few days, but that got busted Saturday morning when playing in the garden.

I think what this week has really proved is the boy has a fantastic temprement. He doesn't really know me but allowed me to bath his sores, and pressure his wounds all the time showering me with kisses. He really is a freindly big boy and he will get a forever home real soon I am sure.

I hop this week is eventful, but not as injury prone!! Ha ha.

Pepper the cat survived the chase

Brook and Charlie in garden- he is very good at fetch!

Tried to get them both together

Charlie being curious as ever

He needed a sleep after all that

Poor Charlie, what a week. Looks like he's settling in fine though. He sounds wonderful.

Great pics. I've found it impossble to get a decent photo of two together. One always moves! Really hope his tail gets better but he's obviously loving being with you as his energy doesn't seem to have diminished because of it biggrin.gif

How is Brook doing with him? He is a lovely looking boy, poor little tail though. Watch out, all four of mine lost theirs, though while still in he shelter, but they look weird without them. Both me and the boys suffer from "tail envy", lovely long whippy tails...aah
