Wetting the carpet
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone,

I'm the owner of Kaylay, who's 5 1/2. She's recently started wetting the living room carpet, maybe the past 2 weeks. I've had her a year and a half and had the few accidents but this is becoming more frequent.  I take her out at night between 9-10pm and usually she's fine till morning 6.30am. Any suggestions? It's not every night either maybe every 2nd or third. Last Friday she hurt her paw and it's now been operated on and is fine but i she was doing this before the event. My husband is getting a bit fed up can somone help?

Thanks Aileen

Hi, Aileen - first thing to do is get her checked out at the vet in case of a urinary infection. She might also be feeling a bit out of sorts due to her operation (we've had Pearly to the vet a lot recently due to a poorly tail and it really knocked her confidence), meaning that her normal good habits might have gone a bit out of the window. Though I appreciate that this pre-dates her paw trouble. Could anything else have happened to upset her routine recently?

Practically speaking, if you make sure and wash the area with biological washing powder or a vinegar solution, this will make sure to get the enzymes and smell of her widdle out the carpet. If it's left there, she might be thinking that this is her new place to go. (sorry if this is teaching your granny to suck eggs!)

Good luck, and hope you can crack it.

Fiona
