My Brood

Hiya Everybody

My brood consist of three groos.

Florence, the wee one but the doggie boss, she is very quiet .  Abbey, scared of EVERYTHING and is blind in one eye (due to cataract) . Then theres Dexter, being of a mad disposition! Life was sooooooo quiet pre Dexter!  (But handsome)

We got Florence from the Retired Greyhound Trust, she didin't make the grade. Abbey from the local vet cos she injured one of her tendons and couldn't race. Dexter from the SSPCA via the GAL website he never raced either.

They all get along great except when it comes to which one gets closest to the heater! (Dexter being the worst, whines when he's cold!)

Hope to go the walk on Sunday.

Hi, me again

Has anyone been able to find out about their dogs litter mates via the any greyhound websites?

I've been lucky to hear about one of my dog's sister who now lives in Lincolnshire, but nothing about the the other two as yet.

We found out that Pearly has 4 sisters, none of whom have any recorded races. She also has a brother who, when last we looked, is still racing down in Yarmouth. I felt quite sad when we found out - I wanted to zoom down there and take him home with us to a comfy cushion and a generous serving of Bonio.

In fact, I've just looked again. His last race was on 22nd Jan. He's going downhill in his placings. Maybe he'll be retired soon........?

And, ooh, there's a piccie of Pearly on the database site! How did that get there?

Thanks for the reply. I have the litter mates of my doglets, still love that name.                Florence 8 sisters & 3 brothers all which have raced/racing names, so no idea why Florence didn't race (runt of the litter?).                                                                                Abbey (Movealong madam) has 5 sister & 3 brothers. It is her sister Lola who lives in Lincolnshire now.(Pearly looks abit like Abbey and Lola from the head shot of her)                Than lastly poor old Dexter no other litter mates are listed :( infact he is the only off spring listed for his mum & dad.

Hi Steve it was me that put Pearly picture there (I have the power!)

Hi Louise, it's quite rare for GAL to get Siblings in to rehome (unless it's a litter of pups) but we do sometimes get half brothers or sisters, HOWEVER, I'll tell you the story of 2 of my dogs Ruby (Jodies Deal) & Ivor (No Deal), we got Ruby about 4 years ago and Ivor about 2 and a half years ago, it was only when we checked out Ivor's tattoo's that we realised they were brother and sister! They had both come from different trainers. I'd love to say there's was a spark of recognition when they were reunited but sadly there wasn't although Ivor did get on better with her than the rest of our pack..

When I did some digging through the GAL records in an idle moment we then discovered that we had re-homed 2 more of their brothers, Lucky (Devas Deal) and Ziggy (Jamies Deal) Again they had both come from different trainers. Finally about 18 months ago a dog was handed into a vet to be PTS, we rescued him and he's now been rehomed, on checking his tattoo's we realised that Gus (Tonaghs Boy) was another brother!..

There's two remaining siblings out there, another brother and a sister, I'd love to find them!!

cheers

Dave

I have for a long time wondered if racing bred greyhounds were classed as 'pedigrees' in the eyes of the Kennel Club. (Cos you can trace their pedigree back at least five generations). So as its Crufts this weekend I emailed them via the Discover Dogs bit on their website. Here is what they replied-

'..........racing greyhounds can be registered with the
Kennel Club and will be classed as pedigrees.'

So maybe Crufts next year?!

Only if the dog hasn't been neutered!  The Kennel Club are v big on dogs having all their tackle still in tact and in working order!
