good walks??

Heres Murphys favorite walks in & around the Edinburgh area - he thought his fellow four legged pals might like to know in case they were ever in the area & faniced somewhere new....(all safe for off the lead doggies too)

In Edinburgh:
"The Hermitage" @ Blackford Hill - a good 1-1.5hr route, sheltered from elements, river to paddle in & extensive woodland for squirral hunting

Cramond foreshore...hmmmm miles of beach when the tide is out, nice long pathway when tide is in - 1-1.5hr route

Holyrood park - some roads so Im not off the lead all the time - lots of hill work & heather to explore but mum tires quickly as she says her thight muscles arent as good as mine...1-2hrs if you have the stamina (owners that is!)

Just outside Edin:

Longniddry Dents - beach at car park no 2 is best as its furthest from the road - good 1-2hrs of fun can be had here...

John Muir Country Park, just b4 Dunbar - massive jungle of fun - loads of woodlands & mile upon mile of white clean beach & fab salt plains perfect for a good gallop. Anything from 1-3hrs of fun here but by that point mum has to lift me into the car as Im pooped...

Gullane beach is great fun - loads of sand dunes to race around - can spend 2hrs here easily

Vogrie Country Park out by Borthwick - brill place with open fields, woodland, rivers, kids play areas, - 2-3hrs exploring easily

Beescraig Country Park out by Broxburn. WOW - doggie heaven with over 1000 acres to explore - some small roads supplying car parks. Miles of woodland, a resevoir to jump in (much to the pleasure of the trout fishermen - oops), picnic areas for scrounging food. We walk for 3hrs but you can easily spend all day there are its all flat so even mum kept up & wasnt tired after!

Phew - thats me all done for my top fav spots...off to curl up on sofa now as Im tired just thinking about all those walks. Where do your owners take you guys???

Love Murphy *woof*

I like any walks where I can RUNNNNNNN with dogs who can keep up.

We live in Longniddry 2 Mins walk from car park No 1 we tend to walk from there to car park No 2 then back home via the golf course looking out for any low flying golf balls!!

I also had great fun at Gullane beach with a grey hound and a lurcher that I met. All in all life is rather good

I like a park in Paisley, used to be Linn Park in Glenburn but has been added as part of Gleniffer Braes. It's about 1/2 mile to the waterfall, but it's a very steep uphill slope - good for returning to the car as it's all downhill!!

Nice views as it's fairly high.

I've only had Ruby for a week so still on the lookout for good walks, this one is favourite at the moment as it's close to home, and not too long a walk for Ruby while she gets used to long walks (and while I get used to long walks as well)

Hi all

We live near the "Sustrans" Cycle Track (previously the railway line) in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire & we find it great for walkies. Our 2 get off the lead to run really fast either on the tarmac'd track or Alfie loves to run up the embankments through the bushes.

Our 2 are cat/small furry safe so we have had no problems with letting them off the lead. Only problem is if black labs appear as Alfie for some unknown reason does not like them.

Must add in as my neighbour is a Ranger on the track that you should use poop scoops (most annoyingly horse riders don't & Sascha has a nasty habit of thinking it is food) and watch out for walkers, runners and bikes.

The Fife Coastal Route (not all of it!!) is great dogs can run around on beach (no rabbits to disappear off after!!), take a dip in the sea when they get too hot, and then run round the dunes to dry off!! Jack goes in and lies down in the sea so only his head sticks out!!

There are also various pubs along the way to stop and "refuel" at!

Hi everyone

We're just back from a superb long weekend in the East Neuk of Fife. I'd agree with Fiona - there are some really great walks along the Fife Coastal Route. I loved Cambo House Gardens where we walked through woodland to get to the coast and once there I had great fun splashing about in the water and racing about on the sand! I'm sure there are many other places on this route safe enough to let me run about to my heart's content. I slept like a puppy at night too - that sea air just knocks you out! We enjoyed it so much we're going to go back in the summer.
