Took Harry to the vet last night cos he's been scratching at his lugs and shaking his head quite a lot. He has a bit of inflammation and a wee bit of gunk in there but nowt to worry about. A few days of drops should sort him out.
Whilst there, I popped him on the scale and he's 32.8kg. I asked the vet how much extra weight we should aim to get on him and he said "nothing, he's perfect as he is". I expected him to say that Harry could do with an extra couple of kg, considering how big he is. Pearly's a lot smaller than him and she's 28.5kg.
Look at these pics - if you can tell from the angle he's standing in them, does he look thin to you?
For those of you who have seen Harry, and who have dogs the same sort of size as him, what weight are your dogs?
Fiona
ps: or, maybe, it's Pearly that's a gutsy gal and ate all the pies!!
Hi Fiona, from the pictures and what I remember of him when i saw him at the dog walk in March I'd say he looks pretty good, could maybe afford to put on a TINY bit extra but no more than 1kg I'd say....reckon it's Pearly's huge brain that makes her so heavy...
Murphys only 27kg but its all to do with bone structure - his siblings all seem to be very petite too so I wouldnt worry - I think Harry looks just perfick!!

They say owners look like their dogs...Im still waiting to morph into a super fit, lean machine with legs up to my armpits...
Maybe it's just the photo but Harry looks all legs with a fairly slender frame - his shoulders don't look very broad so maybe he wouldn't weigh as much as some of the other BIG dogs.
Blue has very broad shoulders (I can place 4 fingers between his shoulder blades) and a large chest but his legs don't look as long as Harry's - maybe this makes a difference?
Both of them look perfect weight to me. Certainly Harry doesn't look grossly thin - perhaps he'll gain a kg or two when he's settled in. He's a young dog and they often look as if they're all legs!
Thanks for the reassurance, everyone. I suppose we're just used to looking at Pearly, who is pretty solid with muscle. Harry certainly is all leg - he's a very lanky boy! When he lies down in the hall he takes up pretty much all the space! Luckily he's a good lad in that he moves immediately when asked. No doubt we'll get used to how much food he really needs soon enough. We don't want to overfeed and turn him in a chubster!
