Both Harry and Pearly go daft when we come home after work. Both now bark non stop, thrash around, spin, and generally take about 10 mins to quieten down - if lucky.

Pearly used to be good as gold - she got excited and used to yap a bit but we used to send her to her box where she would lie down. Only then would we pay her attention.

Since Harry has been with us there's no chance of this - even though we have tried. The more we try to send him to his box his barks even more. He barks like a loon! Poor Pearly goes to her box again and again and again but since Harry isn't doing it she runs round daft too - it's mental! Since Harry likes using his front legs like a kangaroo when he's excited we often get scraped in the process!

Any advice here?

Our three are exactly the same when we or anyone comes into the house!
The only thing we find that calms them down is completely ignoring them for the first 5-10 minutes when we come in. (Or shuvin' them oot for pees!)
I know thats probably what you do/ been told to do, but thats about all I can come up with.

Great help me.....................

Yeah - we've tried ignoring - bark even more! Maybe we need to leave for longer until they stop barking (poor neighbours).

If we let them both in the back garden to run it off Pealry will get eaten alive by Harry - he gets so excited and gets really rough.

We try separating them turn about in the garden but when they get back together they stiull get mental.

Best we've come across is to come in- and grrom them both - they stand still then. Maybe not the best thing to do but we don;t want them to hurt each other - had too many tail probs!!

Ignoring them really does have to mean that. Whenever we are out, we leave the dogs in the lounge with a child gate at the open doorway. This way, when we come into the hall, they can see us, and yes, Ruby and Rosie do bark a bit, and they all make a dash for the gate, but I just walk straight past them into the kitchen and put the kettle on. By the time I have hung my coat up they have settled back onto their beds, and then I go in and say hello. If they manage to get close contact with you, it's virtually impossible to ignore them because they are either leaping up, tripping you up or generally impeding your movements so a barrier would be my advice.

We were more stringent on the ignoring thing today. They're in the kitchen, secure behind a dog-gate, so it is possible to stop them having physical contact with us when we come home. Today, we came in, took off our coats, picked up the post and opened it, put our bags away, etc. They did indeed quieten down, so that was good. I did a bit of extra training with Harry, teaching him to go to his box (ie, his bed) for which he got a teeny bit of cheese each time. Guided by his stomach, he soon cottoned on! Bless him. He's generally a lot more vocal than Pearly (not that anyone would believe that, from the way madam was at the Gullane walk!!) but he's a good lad.
