Thought it was finally time to post something (having been a guest lurking about for weeks!) and now I have something to post about. Drum roll, please....On Tuesday we collected our first foster dog, Sun.
Neither of us knew quite what to expect of Sun. Jenni was amazed at just how much of a sook he was when she collected him from the kennels, he leaned right into her, and with little persuasion got in the car and flaked out!
I met Jenni and Sun on mutal territory, to introduce him to our own dog Ozzy. Jenni was drying Sun when I arrived as he had fallen into the pond! He had also walked straight into a bench. Sun was totally indifferent to Ozzy who wanted to play. Ozzy appeared quite disappointed by Sun as any attempt of interaction was completely ignored.
Back at the house Sun found his bed and flaked out. Later he found Ozzy's bed....and flaked out! He ate very well and then chanced his luck at Ozzy's bowl. Later he tried coffee, straight from the cup. He kept walking into things and, at times, seemed a little shaky on his legs.
Yesterday, Sun was brave enough to get up on the sofa and he mastered the stairs. He also met his reflection in the mirror. Ozzy has decided that Sun is not a dog at all. Sun continues to ignore Ozzy, except to walk into him if he's in the way!
Sun's character has slowly began to emerge today - he was even waiting for me (with Ozzy) at the window when I got home from work, then he wagged his tail when I stepped through the door!!!
We have high hopes for Sun, but one step at a time - he doesn't even know his name yet.
Lea

Its nerve wracking taking on your 1st foster but it sounds like you could have a fair bit of entertainment on your hands over the next few weeks!!! What a character Sun sounds :)
Hope Ozzy learns to appreciate the wee scamp soon!! keep us posted....

Hi Lea, I've been looking at your 'avatar' all night with some amusement, is it just me or the camera angle or is Ozzy like the biggest dog in the world?..
Great to hear about about Sun's progress. I have a wee connection, I transported him from his trainer to the Kelty Kennels - so my acquaintance with him was very brief. He was a good traveller though!
Once they relax into a new home their character begins to emerge - can take a bit of time though! as thses guyshave been through a lot.
Sun sounds as though he is settling in well - my current dog Trei still does not want to play although he seems happy enough in himself. Cleo my new younger girl loves to play with squeaky toys.
Good for you, Lea! I'm looking forward to hearing more about Sun and Ozzy! Sun will soon get used to unfamiliar things. And Ozzy I'm sure will teach him how to play! Dave's right - Ozzy does look huge in your avatar - but it's a brilliant photo. Keep us posted on how you're all getting on.
Here is a photo (I hope) of Ozzy and Sun looking even more at home on the sofa, and a more proportionally correct photo of the worlds biggest dog (avator Ozzy)!!
I think I preferred it when I thought Ozzy was a Labrador /Shire horse cross. Lovely pic (took me ages to work out that I had to be logged in to view it though).
