As most of you are aware I was lucky enough to foster Billy last month - he was one of the Irish 5.
Billy had a few problems, due to the treatment he had received at some time in his very young life, and Billy required a home which could provide him with peace and quiet in order for him to progress to the happy 'puppy' he should have been . Billy got his peace and quiet, coupled with a massive dose of TLC!! He became a much loved member of my small family - thats Denzel the cat and I, and in no time at all, Billy walked with his head held high and his tail wagging. It soon became obvious that Billy yearned to be with other dogs - he constantly licked the face off of every dog he met - and it was to this end that I sought advice from Dave and we agreed it would beneficial for Billy at this stage to be in a home with other dogs! Billy really landed on his feet and he was lucky enough to be fostered by a wonderful family who have 3 beautiful Greyhounds. He is the smallest - is that possible - and the youngest, and he is having the time of his life. He has settle in so well in his new home, where he is spoiled rotten. I saw him today, and when I saw how happy, content and relaxed he was I was a very proud Ex Foster Mum. This was the first time I had fostered a GAL dog - unless you count the night Sun (with the broken hock), and I slept on the floor when he was handed over to GAL! Sun is now happy in his foster home. I want to thank eveyone for the support given to me during the short time I had Billy - a special thanks to Carole Robinson for her invaluable advice, Denise for practical support giving Billy a much need sanctury of an indoor kennel, Esther for introducing Billy to Pigs Ears, Lita, Charles, Carol, Dave's Mum, & Gladys, for their encouragement and words of wisdom, Suzanne for excellent Vetenary advice, Steve for giving me a duvet to take Billy home in, and not forgetting our own Guru, Dave, who gave me the chance to look after one of GAL's very special dogs! The list is endless for the support I have received, including my neighbours, who rallied round with spare bedding and toys, and my customers who donated an extra couple of pounds to GAL! And.... Billys new fantastic caring family. The Power of GAL is far reaching! This posting is not only a huge Thankyou to all those that helped Billy, but also a chance for anyone who is thinking about fostering to see what a rewarding worthwhile opportunity it is. Lets hope Billy finds a wonderful Forever Home - he deserves it!! Fostering one dog will not change the world, but it WILL change the world for one dog!!
Watch this space for GAL Foster dog No. 2!! Dawn and Den
Dawn you did a truly wonderful job and transformed this timid wee man into a tiger(grr!) that any person will be proud to call theirs.
Sounds asthough Billy is having a wonderful time with his new pals and look forward to reading about him when he gets his forever home and about your future foster dogs.
oh Dawn - well done honey!!! you did a cracking job which I know had you in tears at times with sheer frustration at the demands of fostering & having to get over the hurdles of dogs learning home life etc....
well done for persevering & getting over that mountain! Foster no 2 should be an easier ride now that you know what to expect!! Ill be heading down that road myself shortly :)
SO glad Billy has taken to his new foster home & Im sure he will cherish all the love & time you unselfishly gave him & wont forget you for it!

You've done a brilliant job with Billy, Dawn! Congratulations to you - I know you're missing him badly but you gave him the chance to find a wonderful new home. It's down to you that he changed from a very frightened little boy into the confident boy he is now - and in such a short time.
Looking forward to hearing all about foster no 2...
Dawn, you certainly made a change to Billy's life and brought out the best in him. I know you had to work hard at it but I don't think I could manage fostering on my own, as well as you have done.
It's never easy when you hand over yout foster girl or boy to their new home! You hand them on with so much trepidation - I hope they do well!, I hope they won't disappoint, I hope I got my fostering views right,
etc etc
But the joys of seeing your foster dogs blossom in their new homes awaits.
