I took Maisie back to the kennels who took her in when she was found on the streets today.

Staff member Helen had kept in contact with Sharon whilst she was fostering her & I plan to keep this up as Helen was totally in love with Maisie - and as I found out today - looked after her soley for the whole 6wks she was there recuperating. It was Helens decision on the day Maisie was handed in, weither or not Maisie was to be PTS as she was in such a terrible terrible state. They didnt think she would make it through the night, she was so emaciated & had big open sores etc all over her. Helens heart went out to her thankfully & she refused to give up on her.

And so, Helen nursed Maisie through those hellish 6wks & helped her trust a little again...

She was gobsmacked to see her today & couldnt believe the difference in her. I am so pleased I visited (few lumps in my throat when listening to Helen talk of her early days). I couldnt help but hug Helen when she said she had been the one to say 'no - we're not putting her down'.....*welling up again*....thankgod. Coz then id have never met this precious wee soul....

Ill visit again in a few months so they can see how even more beautiful she has become...

Helen showed me the pictures she took of Maisie the day after they got her. In the years & years these kennels have taken in strays they said they had never seen anything like it before. She is emailing me them & I hope to, once Maisie is up to full form, to post the before & after shots....

....miracles do happen!

I've a big lump in my throat too after reading about your visit to Helen's kennel with Maisie. Her decision to give Maisie a chance has made everyone very happy, but probably Maisie most of all. She's now got a wonderful home with you and Murf and with your care, and Sha's, is well on the way to being healed.

Helen must have been over the moon at the difference she'd see in Maisie. In that first six weeks, Helen would need to give her some pretty intensive nursing and because of that Maisie made it through the dark days. It's a great idea to keep in touch with her and let her know how Maisie is getting on. She sounds a real gem!

the vets are fab & let me stay with her whilst she got her pre-meds & fell asleep - there was about 5 nurses coo'ing around her kennel so they will look after her well ( espech as one of the nurses is a HUGE GH fan & has 3 herself)....

still - leaves a lump in your throat doesnt it....poor bubba... :(

murfs just lying on the couch looking v glum

(ps - I live one floor up - should I be carrying her up & down the stairs for the next few days?)

AHHH Suzanne,

You and Murphy will be lost today with Maisie, but she'll be back later to lots of TLC from both you and Murf's. Give her a big hug from us, she'll probably be feeling very sorry for herself.

I'm not sure what to do about the carrying upstair, but i suppose you will see whats best when you collect her from the vets - one thing is for sure you will have her best interests at heart, because in the short time i have known you I definitely know how you feel about your Babes.

I picked up Maisie at 1pm today - vets did her as quickly as they could & got her home asap so she wouldnt be too stressed in the vets - good for them. We then went & sat in mums garden (no steps to negotiate) & mais slept on her duvet in the sun with murf for most of the afternoon. Just got her home - awfy sleepy & not at all interested in food so she was lifted out of the car, up the stairs & onto the sofa where Im sure she will stay for the rest of the night...

might have to wake her up for a huggle every now & then ...

off to stock up on arnica in the morning. Not sure how walkies will go the next few days - not easy to walk a hyper dafty like Murf off the lead & allow him enough of a run whilst keeping Maisie on the lead & keeping her walks shorter...hmmm...sure Ill figure it out

hi suzanne, hope maisie is ok after her op.

i wasn't sure about the stairs after we'd had daisy fixed but she sorted it out herself.  for the first couple of days she just lounged round on her downstairs bed.  by the third day she was bounding gently up the stairs.  she didn't do any damage so i guess they know their own limits.

good luck and kisses to the "wounded soldier" !!

Aaww Suzanne! Hope wee Maisie is better soon! I'm sure she'll know what she's capable of doing without hurting herself and within a couple of days she'll be up and down the stairs without effort. I know she'll be enjoying lots of TLC from you and Murf, but just to make sure, give her one big hug from me and a great big FISHY kiss from Vegas!! Let us know how she's getting on.

Oooh, wee babba Maisie - hope she's not feeling too sore after her op. No doubt she's being spoiled rotten by her mummy and Murph.

And what a lovely tale about visiting Helen. She must have been so thrilled to see how well the wee tot is doing. I'm intrigued about Maisie's "before" piccies, but I'm not at all sure that I really want to see them. They must have been pretty hard viewing for you, Suz. It just shows what a bit of determination and love on the part of kindly hoomans can do, plus a goodly amount of willingness to trust again on the part of the doogles. It's pretty gobsmacking all round.

Having just seen Maisie's "before" piccies, I think I will spend the rest of the afternoon doing this.....

sorry Fiona - hope Ive not upset you....just got the pics sent to me this arvo from Helen at the kennels...horrid eh!! Cant wait to get some good after shots taken - remember to bring the camera with you on Sunday (STILL cant figure out how mine works! DOH)

Maisie woke up with a wee smile on her face & waggy tail this morning. Gave her some more Metacam to see her through the day & we went off to visit Susan, Ian & Erin for the morning - Maisie even managed a gentle half an hour stroll along the canal whilst Murf & Benson got up to mischeif... :)

She has eaten like a horse today & is popping up & down the stairs no prob. Such a tough wee soldier!! (considering the fact that she has experience REAL intense pain in her life, im sure a simple neutering is just like a mild twinge to her...bless)

Anyway Im sure she will be just grand & happy to join us at John Muir this Sunday - even if she will be on the lead...

Hy, Suz - it's not you that's upset me, it's the scaggy barstewards that did it to her. I mean, for gawds sake, she's TINY! It must have made them feel so big and strong to pick on such a little lass. Aaargh! Sorry, I'm off before I say something that gets me banned!!!

Here's hoping that it won't be long before her previous life is nothing more than a dim and distant misty memory for her. She's getting an extra cuddle from her Auntie Fiona on Sunday.

Hi Suzanne

Delighted that wee Maisie is taking all this healing business well in her stride. As you say, her stitches are a minor irritation compared to what she has suffered before. But at least now she is getting the very best of care and the peace and time to heal properly.

Where have you posted her 'before' piccies - I can't find them? I'm almost afraid to look because I know before I see them how angry I'll be.

I'm sure it won't be long before your wee poppet is racing around with Murph again. I'll bet he's missing all the rough and tumble.

Hi Christine - not posted them yet - just emailed them to Fiona. Im hoping auntie Fiona & uncle Steve will bring their camera with them on Sunday to get some 'after' piccies - once I them then Ill pop them on a separate thread.

I no longer see them as upsetting pictures as such - they are my inspiration for loving this wee girl to death & making sure that she never ever experiences any pain or sadness ever again!

Maisie is definately back on form - Im having to stop her pouncing on Murf at every opportunity she gets - she taken to hiding behind the bushes in the garden/behind corners to leap out on him & then mass wrestling contest ensues.....daft as brushes these two!!
