Hiya,

Can anyone advise how to clean a dog's ears? I can see wax in Ruby's ears, it's not ver far in - should I remove it, and how?

Any advice appreciated

Hi Janet

I have a labrador who has very waxy ears and have found the following removes the wax just nicely.

cotton wool ball or wad
Warm water
Small amount of doggy shampoo

Mix a small amount of the shampoo with the warm water to make a weak solution then....
Dunk your cotton wool into the mix, squeeze slightly and gently wipe the inside of the ear (do not dig around in the ear and don't go too deep inside)
Repeat until clean

THEN....

STAND BACK FOR THE INEVITABLE HEAD SHAKE !!!!

***** NEVER USE A COTTON BUD ***** you can damage the dogs ears if you use one.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Katrina

Hi Janet

My sister has two beagles and one of them has problems with ear wax from time to time. She swears by using Thornit which can be bought over the Internet. A small bottle costing £7 lasts for ages. Apparently many people connected to dog shows use it on their dogs, but for some reason vets don't supply it.

I've given you a couple of links below to see if you want to try it. If you search for Thornit on Google, you can read loads about it.

Hope Ruby's ears are better soon. Big hugs from Vegas.

Christine

Thanks Katrina & Chistine,

I think I'll try the warm water/shampoo solution for now. It doesn't seem to bother her as I've never seen her rub them so don't think it's too serious.
