Poor Harry has a lumpy jaw
Permalink Closed

Poor Harry! Those long legs of his are forever getting tangled and leading him into trouble. During a mad 5-mins racing round the garden at the weekend, he bumped into me and caused me to have a dead leg for a minute or two and I am now sporting a massive dark purple bruise. But poor Hazza came off the worst. Whilst cuddling him that night I felt a lump in his jaw - which caused my heart to flip over in terror, as you can imagine. Then I remembered our collision, and realised it would be a blood bruise. Since then, we've had it drained a wee bit at the vet but his whole jaw is now swollen and wobbly with fluid.

Spare a thought for the poorly big guy.

Look at these:

Before: a perfectly pointy needle nose....

After #1

After #2 (bit blurry cos he moved at the last moment)

After #3 (the other side)

Oh the poor big fella that must be sore. give him a big hug from me and I'm sure an icecream would help numb those cheeks of his...

Murf had this once when he violently slipped his collar when frightened by a loud bang (one of those 360 spins mid-air jobs!) - the swelling only appeared 2 days later & he felt V sorry for himself (think the buckle of the collar caught him) - 1 day of metacam later & swelling was all away although his lip was tender for a few days after that...

Give Harry a big hug from us - bet Pearlys telling all her dog mates SHE gave him the fat lip for being cheeky!! ;)

Thanks for the kind thoughts, chaps. It's funny - sometimes I think that Pearly doesn't really like Harry (and those of you at the doggy-psychic night will know that Harry thinks so too!) but whenever they've been separated, say if one of them has been to the vet without the other, when they're reunited she rushes straight over to him to sniff and lick at his muzzle in greeting.

Suz - the vet gave him an injection to help with the swelling and to ease any pain. He was ever so good with her. He let her put her fingers right into his mouth and press along his gums and jawbone, and he stood really still for her too.

Hi

What great photos.  Harry is beautiful.  If you are going up to Alloa this Sunday, the other dogs on the street will pale in comparison to his lovely looks.

Away from the frivolous-ness of good looks.  Very much hope that your leg is healing well and also the wee man's jaw.  For your bruise, arnica is very good.

Take care.

Thanks, Iluska. We've been giving Harry arnica to help him heal, but I hadn't given my bruise a second thought!!

Oh dear. Things aren't good. Steve came home this afternoon to a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - blood everywhere, all over the kitchen floor. Turns out Harry had clawed at his lump and burst it. Yet another swift trip to the vet followed, and he is now feeling very sorry for himself with one of those lampshade collars on him. He's still dripping a bloody-fluid, and we're hoping it will dry up soon.

Depending on how he is, we may or may not see you all at the GALa on Sunday.

Fiona

What a shame, Fiona! Hope big Harry is a lot better soon. He's given himself a real sore one - and you too, by the sounds of things. Give him a big hug from me - and one for Pearly too. Hope you can manage along to the GALa on Sunday.

Goodness - what an alarming thing to happen from a simple bump in the garden.  Useful to know that can happen though.

Get Well Soon to Harry!

Despite Harry's wish to enter all the categories for the dog show on Sunday he has had to admit defeat. His red raw bump and lampshade means he's better off staying at home for some TLC. Pearly might make it up on Sunday - we'll have to see.
