Many of you will know that I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching for Maggie over the past few days.
I was very tired yesterday morning so was late getting up and getting the dogs sorted for their first walk.
Unfortunately I forgot to put Snap and Cleo’s muzzles on. The four dogs were enjoying their time out on the grass when one of their deadly enemies bounded over the embankment. (a rottweiler cross) Snap and Cleo got over excites and there was much growling and barking. Cleo and Snap had a go at each other. The rottweiler was put back on the lead and led off.
I got my dogs sorted and headed back to my flat. Then I noticed that Snap had a very large piece of skin and fur hanging down from her left cheek running from just below her ear. Cleo had struck home.
I thought that’s all I need!!!!
Fortunately the vet was free to see her about 2 hours later. I patched up with my supply of dressings, bandages and plasters. The vet decided that she needed an operation. Fortunately Snap had not had breakfast so she was operated on later in the morning / early afternoon. She had the wound cleaned, a bit of shin /fur removed and the cheek skin tightened up. (facelift)
I picked her up around 4.00pm – She was very groggy the effect of strong painkillers but she managed to make it to my van despite the drunken looking walk.
I put a lampshade collar on her and settled her in a cage and left for the Helensburgh for Mission Maggie.
Snap is fine today – none too pleased by the collar and sporting a 3 inch stitched wound.
I thought typical Glasgow girl - out fighting and getting a face slash and now sporting a 3 inch stitched wound.
Charles.
Ps Snap and Cleo were undertaking training to resolve these aggressive clashes when they are stimulate by sight of prey or a dog they don’t like but this was interrupted by the Maggie search
We have a VERY clumsey Labrador who didn't see our lurcher Dusty (she's a brindle) in the long grass and basically rail roaded her. She sustained many laserations to the face and was dazed for some time. We got her patched up at the vets but instead of a facelift she got glued !!
Thankfully her face didn't take the full impact of the bounding Lab it was her shoulder.
She has recovered fine without any visible scares so we hope this will be the same for snap.
Better give Snap some big hugs and kisses from all of us.
Poor Snap. Charles, I can relate to the scenario of one dog having a go at the other when stimulated by prey or a dog they don't like - this has developed with Tyler having a go at Max sometimes when out walking, but fortunately (so far) no blood has been shed, and it is easily stopped, especially as Max is submissive to Tyler. However, I'm keen to hear about the training or if you could point me in the direction to seek out some advice.
Hope Snap makes a speedy recovery and that there are no more scuffles between her and Cleo!
My mums young Collie acts this way when he's on the lead and can't get to another dog (fortunately he only nips so hasn't caused any real damage to either her or her other dog (at the moment)). I'd also be interested to hear of any tips on how to overcome this problem.

Oh poor Snap! Hope she's better soon, Charles, and that both her and Cleo sort out their differences when they spot sworn enemies! But it definitely wasn't what you were looking for, after (or before) chasing Maggie about over rough ground! Big hugs to Snap - I'm sure her facelift won't be noticed in a few weeks after her fur has grown in again - she'll be as beautiful as ever.
Am will be spending a bit of time taking Snap and Cleo together - leaving Mick and Trei behind.
I want them to see a fox - thats bound to happen most evenings. The both then tend to get wound up, barking and jumping about. At that point they can launch at one another.
I'm using water pistol technique - a quick sqoosh to the head - distracts them - I reinforce this with a firm 'no'
I have found water pistols are not that great so I bought a flower spray bottle about £1 - They are bit bulky for my pocket so I bought a bottle of window cleaner in a narrow spray bottle ( least toxic ) Then pour window cleaner into flower spray bottle and swop over the spray guns. Flower spray is one you need for a good distance squoosh.
Few days the dogs should react only to my firm 'no'
I'm just mreminding them that I am top dog and that I decide how we react to a fox
She is doind great and the wounds seems fine. The skin in the jaw area has a poor blood supply so she had a section removed. Hopefully the skin will heal completely.
I've just had to put the lampshade back on as I spied her trying to have a scratch. I can imagine that the wound gets itchy.
She is very good and has accepted the lampshade with resignation. She is a good patient - like most greyhounds - very accepting of all the fiddling about with collars muzzles etc
Hi, Snap, Harry here - just wanted to send my sympathies to you for having to wear the dratted lampshade collar. It's awfy, isn't it? I've had mine on now for almost two weeks. Mum and Dad say that it comes off on Saturday, when they can keep their eyes on me. I can't wait to have a blummen good scratch! Make sure that your Dad gives you loads of sausages during your time of trauma. Let's face it, we have to get some sort of compensation for wearing a lampshade and looking like a big berk in front of the whole village! (Or maybe that's just me.........).
Snap had her stitches out today - A bit of the wound has still to heal properly. She stood patiently while the vet cut the stitches. She always please to get biscuits once the vet is finished.
She is back to the vet on Monday for x rays on her right hip joint and lowers spine. Vet trying to establish the cause for the muscle wastage in her right leg. When she is 'under' she will get her teeth cleaned
good for you snap for being a good girly while the nasty man fiddled with your face. i bet you had nice bickies after tho - its always worthwhile being poked about a bit for a bickie !
Bet Suzie's delighted to be rid of the itchy stitches! But she was a good girl getting them out. Hope everything goes well with the X-ray and the vet can pinpoint what's wrong with her leg. Good luck Snap, we're all hoping it's easily fixed!
Snap's 'facelift wound' is healing fine. She was miffedt that she lost her head scarf at the walk!!! MMM Big Hollywood Actress But mega pleased that Dave M found it!!!!!
She is pleased to be back to normal - but wishes that every one knows that Cleo has a bite mark on her side in revenge ( top mama Snap gets her own back) Typical 'GLASOW GIRL' - You don't rip my face without getting done back - Charlie is treating revenge attack agjjjjjjj
Charles - you're certainly having a bit of girl trouble!!! Mick, I'm sure, is wise enough to keep away and let the girls get on with it. But poor you! Just after getting Snap fixed up, Cleo has a wound for you to treat. Let's hope the girls get themselves sorted out soon!
