Denzel hits the Headlines

Many of you will have read about Denzel, my Greyhound loving cat, who was so devoted to Kaz my first GH.  Well, the Evening Times (Glasgow based evening paper), are running a competition for Pet Idol 2005 and I entered Denzel as the 'Greyfriars Bobby of the Cat World'. 


Last Friday I received a telephone call from the Evening Times asking if they could take some pictures of Denzel sitting beside the memorial statue of Kaz to feature in the paper.  Today the photographer of the ET's arrived to capture the amazing sight of Denzel sitting at the statue, but I had warned them that Denzel was terrified of people and would run a mile seeing a stranger, but hey ho......in true trooper style, I brought Denzel out for his photoshoot and guess what....he took one look at the photographer and scaled the fence and ran a mile!!! Fortunately, before he took off, he ran up to the statue and the photog, did manage a couple of shots with poor Den looking like he was about to be attacked by a local Tom!!  Who said never work with children or animals!!


The photographer then took a few photos of Kazs' pictures and then insisted on taking some of me next to the statue minus the cat!  Hope his camera is still working!! I kept calling on Denzel to come back but he wasn't playing...camera shy I guess.


Off the chap went with a couple of pictures, not exactly what he expected, but hey thats life! 


The minute he drove off, out comes Denzel and he went straight up to the statue and had a good sleep!!!!!! L


Little Devil, making his Mum look a right plonker Rodney!! Don't you just love them??????


I explained that Denzel was a bit confused with the new pups being around as he was just forming a bond with big Mac, and the photog told me he had an allergy to animals.............no wonder Denzel ran off then!!!!!


I will keep you posted if Denzel becomes a star!!!:

Hi Lita, Yes it was a fab article, its a pity GAL didn't get a mention, it wasn't for the want of saying the name....but who knows what will come out of this?????  Only mistake was that I never said Kaz hate all other Cats and Dogs, I did say kaz didn't like any other cat!!  And of course the mistake about my age... he wrote 41, it should have read 31....oh well thats the media for you.!

Hi everyone,


Thank you very much for the support you have given to this remarkable little Cat.  What a star he is and even if he doesn't win his Mum is still v proud of his Devotion to old Kaz, and for those who have been around GAL for a few years now will all remember what a special big boy Kaz was.


Kaz was a blood donor at the Vet college for many years, (apparently saved the lives of many a poor dog), and I was so lucky that Denise allowed me to adopt him, at the grand old age of 9yrs..Kaz that was not me!


So I guess its no surprise that Denzel keeps a vigil over such a special dog!!

What a great article Dawn. Den definitely deserves to win and the entire Bowgang - human,canine and feline have all toes ,paws and fingers crossed. Who decides on the winner,is it a panel of judges or the public?

Many thanks for your posting, its the public who decides who wins, its a pity they didn't mention GAL, I did mention it often enough, but hopefully more will come of this and I can get GAL mentioned then.  I'm not sure how the votes are to be cast, ie, by phone or posting, but they are going to put out a couple of supplements and thats when we find out.  Dave said I could let everyone know on the forum.  Here, wee Den, not only featured in the Evening Times, but more importantly being side by side by the Greyhounds and Lurchers, Denzel will think he is a real Icon!!

Hi guys


Thank you very much for your support, Mum said all the dogs were lovely, and then had the cheek to say all the cats were lovely too!!! Whats she on..????  I may not be the most handsome cat, but I am definately the most faithfull!!!  Only yesterday I was out walking with Mac, I walk about a couple of feet behind him, (he likes to think he's the King, but he's actually a big Queen ), next thing a man and his wee boy were trying to shoo me away, so big Mac gave them the evil eye.  I then heard them saying to Mum that they feared for my life, cos they had never seen a cat so close to a Greyhound!!  I feared for their lives cos Mac is my bodyguard!! "You tell em Mac" Ha Ha!!

Well done Mac for educating some more people that not all greys would eat a cat for breakfast! What a cheeky man trying to shoo you away from your best pal could he not tell you are a greyhound in cats clothing
