Are you still wanting chapters for the book? If so, given a bit of time to write something, we could put something together about our last dog, Eeyore, a deaf lurcher (going for the sympathy vote here!). He was a Battersea dog so qualifies on the rescue front, and did quite well ending up living in Scotland! Oh, and he was spoilt rotten too! Sure we could come up with some tales about him......
YES PLEASE - I have 10 chapters now submitted by you nice people - looking for atleast 10 more!!! come on you know you want to! Remember it's just the story I'm inerested in, if you think you cant write thats not a problem as the book will be edited to 'professional' standard
Dave, could the book include photographs? Some of the photos I've seen here have been brilliant, really professional. All the best publications have a photo feature, don't they?
I think photographs would make the book look stunning but they'd also make printing it very expensive so we'd have to weight that up.
You did give me an idea though for those who'd be happier writing something shorter than what Dave's looking for for the book...a short piece (I'd estimate 100 words) and a nice photo would look great on next year's calendars!
Don't know if you are including the chapter what I wrote!! But as I said earlier it is probably mince. However, if you are short of material you may just be using it. That said will you be giving the writers a chance to sort out grammatical errors and the like. I noticed a couple of things I would change.
Hi Joyce, mince is better than no mince I reckoned this would take a while to put together so I'm happy to wait till I have enough material, get writing if you'd like to contribute!
Okay, this time it's for real - I am, am, AM going to write something for this book. Not quite sure what nor whether I can write anything better than mushy guff about how much I love my dogs! But I've got my first paragraph together and have thought of a title. I'll get there.....
Would you be interested in a funny piece called ‘Gigantic Dog Fat Cat’ Graham and I have been thinking that we would write something funny about Tara (Gigantic dog as christened by a little girl in the park) and Cisco our fat cat. It may turn into a cartoon instead if my drawing skills are up to it.
Is it a problem that Tara is not strictly a Lurcher (being a hound hound cross)?
Also if you need another editor Graham has experience in this area, and he and I have a bit of experience of small print publications.

Hi Claire, if thats the lovely Tara as your avatar then if she came to GAL we'd call her a lurcher and rehome her.... so I'd love your story / cartoon whatever! The more submissions (of any kind!) the better! And thanks for the offer of Graham's help, at one point when i think I have enough material I'll be on the look out for that sort of advice!

Yes that is Tara, lots of people think that she is a lurcher. We call her our Celtic Hound, being half Wolfhound and half Deerhound. I think that strictly she is a long dog, but I have never really like it as a term.

Dave, I thought I'd already forwarded my contribution to you months ago. Did you not get it?
My last essay for college due in a few weeks, then I promise i will try!!! and write something. Have your spell check ready
My two are shaping up as a little double act so i'm sure i can write something.

Glenda what about the story about Zoe the sleep therapist Would a story like that be good for the short piece?

Thought with lots of newer members to the forum I'd bump this post up a wee bit, I'm still looking for sumbissions for a proposed GAL book, the previous posts tell all...
Missy wrote: Dave Why don't you put Zak's Fostering Diary (under Foster Dog Updates) into your book. It gives real insight to fostering.
Yeah great idea Katrina - I've a few days off after the GALa so might have a trawl through some stuff on the forum here also see what I can put together!
I have a quick question (and I guess I am helping bump this topic back to the top...) can we write a chapter for each of our dogs? I may only have had Lizzie a couple of months, but I have a very unique story about how she pratically saved my life and has totally changed my thinking on where I park my car on a dark night!
I ask because I was just looking through some old photos of Billy and thinking how amazing the changes in him have been, and figured I could easily write a chapter on him alone. Also, Lizzie has had a share of trials in the short time since she left the racing industry, and she has been so brave and good through them all.
Laura wrote: Hows the book doing Dave? How many chapters have you managed? It looks like lots of people have written something by the response on the forum!
Got some good material now Laura but still need loads more!!
