Delighted that Blue is getting on really well with you all and has a special relationship with Dexter! Maybe Dexter will teach him how to play eventually, because he sounds as if he's willing to learn. But he's having great fun at the same time, too. Well done!
Ben def has a special kinda relationship with Dexter.............copying all his bad habits! Whingin cos he's bored/wants his breaky, sookin' cos he wants your dinner and sneakin onto our bed.........four groos make a king size bed seem tiny.
We were given a greyhound ornament/statue last night and Ben wouldn't/couldn't take his eyes off it! For a good hour he was fascinated. Sniffing (all over plus were its bits would be), licking then finally trying to pick it up.
He has shown a interest in some of our other ones before (its the shape me thinks) but not the fascination of last night. What goes on in his head?.................

Funny you should say that. Our very own Nora (forum name, Max) is a very talented artist in her spare time and she's done the most beautiful bronze scupture of a greyhound. When Pearly saw it she was absolutely captivated. She sniffed it, pawed at it, sniffed it some more and was generally fascinated by it.

Who indeed knoww what goes on in their wee heads?
I think they would definately recognise the shape - it just looks like a real greyhound that is far away - mayby thats why they're facinated that it's small AND close (there was an episode of Father Ted like this with deer)
Ruby can definately recognise grey's/lurchers from a distance in real life and is far more exited than it it were another type of dog.
I agree with you, Janet. Vegas definitely recognises other sighthounds instantly! The difference in his attitude with them compared with other dogs is quite distinct. He'll go up to greet other dogs and he's friendly enough and plays chases. But with another sighthound, his chasing games are magnificent to see and in a completely different style from his playing with the other breeds!
Neeroz, I am very interested in your collection of statues. Are they indoors & outdoors ones? Can you point us in any directions where these can be bought?
The ones we have are border fine arts, leonardo, which we have got from local shops (leonardo one them Ben likes), art deco ones from ebay and the bronze/copper ones (one is big enough for outside) from car boot sales. I know its not much help, but also try Past Times or Scotts of Stow catalogues as there are sometimes in stuff like that.
Ben has now started whinning at the ornimant, play bowing/barking and checking every morning to see if its still there! Must be love or his wee pal!
I will try and get pictures of them asap but I don't have digital camera yet. (dear santa...........)
Ben was do'in the growly bit again after a bit of playing in the garden and I was rubbing his side, so I think its an excited/happy thing. Maybe thats him trying to purr/talk! His kennel coat is coming oot in lumps as well so he's a bit scruffy lookin at the mo.
Some piccies of Ben. Plus the piccies of the copper/bronse statue and orinimant.
On a quick up date of Ben, he has finally got the idea that he will NOT be second in command to Florence. Abbey has firmly put him in his place. So the gang have settled again. He is now starting to squeek in his sleep (deep enough sleep to dream noo) and doing an up side doon dug.
Had to get a broken tooth removed, which got a bit infected, so having to washing out the socket with stuff. Must be painful/uncomfortable but never a noise from him. Wee doll!
We won't be at the GAL Christmas show but will see everyone at the December walk.
Ben's looking superb, Louise! He's a lovely boy. And I love the bronze statue in your garden. Unfortunately I can't have anything like that as my garden isn't fenced, so it would probably get nicked at some point or another. I've already had a new tub of lavender stolen from the front garden!
will do Louise - gotta say I've been meaning to change his picture for AGES now, he looks kinda 'strange' in his current one (and thats me being kind..)..
A very Happy Birthday, Ben! I see you got lots of yummy treats and a big walk round the 'puddle' at Strathclyde. Looking forward to seeing your new photo.
Glad to see Ben's 'dumpy' photo has gone from the homeless page. Wotta handsome boy he looks like noo! Not that I've fallen for his charms.............I must resist......I must resist...........
He's had a personality transplant since the end of November. Nae fights/growls/throwin his weight aboot, cuddles Abbey/Dexter and shadows Dexter everywhere. Florence gets much respect fae him, then again she always did cos she strutts her stuff! Ferrets are a no no and he ignores them pretty much. He is getting better at passing other doggies, when oot n aboot. (No that we see many these days, cos we're the only idiots oot walking!) He looks but disnae go into stalk mode.
So he has either settled in/trusts us or havin his 'plums picked' has done wonders!
(We'll be at the next Strathclyde Puddle thingy to show him oaf, probably go pear shaped wi doggies then! )
When we first got out o the 'mobile dug kennel' Ben started shiverin and panting, think maybe he was a bit overwhelmed with number o dogs& people. (Or did it remind him of something less pleasant? who knows). Sorry to the guy/family who came to introduce the wee black lurcher pup........... I got a bit up tight about Ben.
My fears were unfounded, Ben looked at other dogs but walked on when told him too, no pulling at all. He was so good he got his muzzle off half way round and apart from a couple of reminders to keep walking, he was brilliant.
Delighted that Ben behaved really well at the walk on Sunday. It's a great achievement and brilliant that you were able to relax and take his muzzle off during the walk. Hope that Ben is getting used to, and enjoying, having all the other dogs around him! Hope to catch up with you at the next Strathy Park walk.
The day finally came yesterday for Ben to go to his new family/home (in Edinburgh) (picked a stoater o a day to travel to Strathclyde Park, A71 was a white oot in places!)
Was strange in the house last night havin only three groos (no that Ben made any noise). Dexter was lookin for Ben and whimperin, I didnae ken he was so attached to him.......so me and Dexter consoled each other wi cuddles.
Had an email fae his Ben's 'new mum' saying he slept ok last night but looked alittle lost n sad at times, but am sure he will be fine. Loads o people and hands to pet him!
So if you see Ben at any o the monthly East walks, gee him a cuddle fae me and Dexter........
(Who said the first foster dug is the hardest to let go..............aye right.............)
Glad he has found his forever home It must have been really hard letting him go. When i fostered Millie, just after a few weeks i knew i couldnt imagine life without her so gave in and kept her. I admire people like you who can foster and see them go onto loving families, then you can help another hound all over again.

You did the best thing you ever could for Blue - you paved the way for his move to a permanent home. You'll be missing him just now but you have room to help another dog find his/her permanent home and Blue will get used to his new family! A huge clap on the back for you - well done!
