Mallaig Again!!!!
Permalink Closed

I feel that every time I post a message on the forum it's always about Mallaig, but anyway it's Mallaig again!!!!

She turned a year on Sat ( I was a bad mum and forgot to post birthday wishes to her on the forum) She has started to try and dominate Dan. She wont let him lie down anywhere near her, when Dan moves around the living room she lie's on the couch with her ears flat back giving him a evil stare ( you have to see it to believe it!) Dan is taking it and seem to be accepting that he is the underdog in the house, Flynn is the top dog and Mallaig just loves him.  I know this is not a behavioural problem as such and that it is natural that they will settle into a pecking order but what I want to know is when she does this in front of me how do I handle it, do I give her a row or do I say nothing. I had to laugh tonight, Mallaig wouldn't let Dan up on the couch, and flynn was on the other one so Dan had nowhere comfy to lie, I was on the computer and Dan came up whining to me, I just patted his head and said "poor you Dan"  he then came behind me and barked, I stood up saying "what is it son" and the other two jumped off the couches.......Dan then jumped up on Flynne's couch and is fast asleep!, Mallaig and Flynn are sharing the other couch, with not a peep from Mallaig!! Any Advice Please

Hi Tracey, I guess two bits of advice, firstly just leave the dogs to get on with sorting themselves out, try not to do anything or interfere, they will work it out themselves! Secondy, buy poor Dan a bed, it's actually a possibly 'issue', I think viv would call it a 'resource' issue, 3 dogs and 2 sofa's is a possible 'flashpoint' especially if there's a dog (i.e. Mallaig) trying to be a bit pushy round the other dogs..

You nailed it Dave!..........and no mention of the D word, which this kind of behaviour often gets labelled.

Helpful info: (tried to attach a file. Hope it works.)

Thanks Dave and Viv,

Will follow advice given and address the "flashpoint" issue by buying a extra bed for Dan!!!
