Hello, it's George and Maia's new Mum and Dad here!

Yes, we are the lucky ones and George and Maia are coming to live with us from 22nd October. We would love to have taken them sooner but already had a holiday booked in October and didn't want to disrupt them by putting them back into kennels.

We have been visiting them every week at the kennels and taking them for walks (and sneaking in some treats!)

They are absolutely gorgeous and we can't wait to get them home. We will of course keep you posted on their progress. No doubt we will be on the forum regularly for tips and advice.

Christianne & Richard

many congratulations on getting George and Maia. We, also, had to wait for our babies as we had a holiday booked, but it was definitely the right decision.

do keep us posted as to how they are getting on with you.

Hi Christianne & Richard,

Did I meet you at the Strathclyde Park walk?

I'm not very memorable, but Bob was the big blue coloured guy walking backwards and hiding.

Best of luck with George and Mia, I'm sure everyone will be keen to hear of their progress.

George & Maia's new Mum here. Well we went to see the terrible two tonight. It is getting harder and harder to leave them at the kennels, even though they are in Rachael and Eddies' excellent hands.

3 weeks on Saturday and counting!

Yes, Jan we did meet you at the walk last month. I wouldn't have remembered your name (sorry!) but I remember Ruby and Bob. How is Bob getting on, am I right that you are keeping him now?

Hi Christianne and Richard,

It must be hard leaving George and Mia behind each time you visit. They will enjoy meeting with you both for walks and treats.

They are a very handsome pair. I saw them both at Langbank recently.

Yes we're keeping him, but I'm definately stopping at two!

It must be so hard to leave your two in kennels, not long to go though

Hello, it's George and Maia's new auntie here! I am Christianne's sister and live in Colchester in Essex. Christianne has told me so much about you all, and encouraged me to join the forum - so here I am! We are just as excited as Christianne and Richard to welcome George and Maia into the family, not least because we (my mum, dad and I) own an incredibly adorable lurcher ourselves. His name is Bentley and he is about 4 years old. We got him from Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue in Wocestershire two years ago and have never looked back. He is such a character and hardly a day goes by without us laughing at something he does (a sentiment I'm sure you'll all agree with!) It also still amazes me how much love he has to share - he has a cuddle for everyone and anyone, as Christianne and Richard will testify! Can't wait for all three dogs to get together - that's a lot of paws and skinny legs!

Nice to meet you all and congratulations on a wonderful website and all the fantastic work you do for these incredible dogs.

Elizabeth

Welcome Elizabeth..

(and to Christianne and Richard too because I haven't already said, 'hi' to them.)

We are beginning to make quite a lot of new friends from south of the border, which is excellent.

You guys have every right to be excited about George and Maia's arrival as they are a fabulous pair.  I'm sure that when they get together with Bentley you will have loads of fun. I'm looking forward to reading how they all get along.

I hope that you will come to a GAL event sometime when you are up in Scotland visiting as we always have a super time on our days out and about.

Welcome to the forum, Christianne, Richard and Elizabeth (not forgetting Bentley, of course)! I'm looking forward to hearing how they get on when you bring them home and when they meet their big cousin down south for the first time! Won't be long now till you hear the clatter of eight paws!

Christianne and Richard,

Glad to see that you are taking the delightful George & Maia in a fortnight.  I met you at Strathclyde Park when you 'volunteered' to take Fiddie and Coco for a walk for me.  I'm popping down to the kennels tomorrow so I'll make sure they both get a hotdog as a treat.

See you soon,

Andy, Iluska, Fiddie & Coco

Very glad to hear that George & Maia are getting the home that they deserve. We met them once with their first people at the GALa and they seeemed to be very sweet and a little bit cheeky!
We fostered one of their siblings at 16 weeks who was known then as Vulcan but we never gave him back and he is now known as Malcolm (would YOU like to shout "Vulcan" in a crowded park?). He is a lovely big boy and no trouble at all. Everyone loves him as he is a very polite and goofy boy who loves to run with every dog in the park. With the possible exception of other greyhounds who he is scared of. That's him in my avatar pic...
We have now braved fostering again (having had the concept explained to us again we reckon we will remember not to keep the dog this time...) and have Lucy staying with us for a bit. If anyone is looking for a lovely affectionate lurcher girl with bags of character and very few vices you could do a lot worse than Lucy! See the Foster Dog Update forum for details and a couple of pics. If that was a shamless plug I do apologise!

Dino

Hello again,

Sorry it has been a while since I've been on the forum. I wanted to let you know I came up to Glasgow last weekend and met the famous George and Maia! I have to say they are every bit as gorgeous and lovely as I have been told and they are incredibly happy in their new home. Christianne and Richard are also coping admirably! Can't wait to see them again soon (all four of them!).

I am actually also after a bit of lurcher advice today - if anyone can help? We are having a lot of trouble getting Bentley, our smooth coated lurcher, to wear his fleecy dog jacket. He still carries a lot of emotional scars from his past (which we have very scant details of) and whenever we put his jacket on, he trembles like mad and freezes to the spot. The one time last winter we managed to get him moving and took him out in it, he glued himself to our legs and wouldn't sniff or go to the toilet on his walk at all (very out of character). Because he gets so distressed we haven't used it again and have just hoped he wouldn't get too cold on his walk. The problem is, it has turned bitterly cold down here this week (which I'm sure it has everywhere), so we tried it again this morning. However, he got himself in quite a state again and so we took him out without it, but then we noticed he was shivering slightly when he stopped at any point. Any ideas on what we should do? Is it kinder to take him out without a jacket and keep him moving on his walk to keep warm or persevere with his jacket and hope he gets used to it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! We can't seem to find out anywhere if it is as important for lurchers to wear coats as it is for greyhounds. To be fair we meet other lurchers in our country park and we've never seen them with coats on - but that could be something to do with the southern climate! (remembering we're all southern softies down here!!)

Needless to say George and Maia were models of obedience when they had their jackets on and off last weekend!!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Speak soon
Elizabeth

PS best of luck with your GALA day this weekend - hope it is a huge success!
