Westwood House

Just about to book a week away at Westwood House and wanted to check from those who have been there before how secure the garden is? All my dogs are allowed off lead if an area is safe but they do have a fair prey drive for rabbits, hare and deer and tend to chase it needs to be secure. From what I can gather the garden has a large wall around it to where it meets the river and direct access to the island which I assume is totally surrounded by river and therefore difficult to leave. From what I understand the owner is pretty greyhound / lurcher savvy so will know their little foibles but though I would check with fellow sighthound owners!

Thanks

Lots of GAL folk use Westwood House and from what I understand it is totally secure for the dogs.

Hope you have a great time while you're there.  It is supposedly fabulous!

Thanks, probably just being paranoid but I don't want to have to spend the whole week worrying that the hounds might get out of the garden and disappear!

I asked about Westwood last year, got the leaflets at home. It is in Kelso and is perfect for a dog holiday but exspensive. The owner is Debbie Crawford and you can contact her on 07788 134832 or write to Debbie Crawford, Pippin Heath Farm, Holt, Norfolk. NR25 6SS. The only time I can see available on the 2006 Tariff sheet is 19-26 Aug week break at £895.00 or 02- 09 Sept week break at £695.00, 16- 23 Sept £640.00. Like I said costly but worth it. Nora

We had have been there twice now and think it is fab. The first time the river was very high and I was a bit worried the dogs (well our bright spark Malcolm really) would not be smart enough to stay out of the raging torrent but he didn't really go near it. The garden is dog proof and very large with a river island reached by a bridge. The house is huge with two sitting rooms, one for post walk with losts of comfy chairs and an open fire. It's pretty well equiped with dishwasher, microwave, etc. We went in November and February so off-peak times and not very expensive, think it was 365 and we got a 10% discount for being GAL members. Think she also does a two person discount but we had various folk & hounds visiting for a day or two at a time so didn't ask for it.

It's just on the outskirts of Kelso on the Coldstream road. There are plenty walks nearby and you can also head over to the coast for a longer trip. They have a info folder there with lots of suggestions.

Thanks Jade I couldn't see it on other site. Thought it was just me being rubbish on net again It looks great, stunning countryside etc. I was just being nosey as I  grew up in the borders (Selkirk) and worked at stables not far from Westwood house area so sadly its a bit to close to home for me. Would keep bumping into people who know my mum, brother, granny etc etc you know what small towns are like.

Just wondered if anyone else using Westwood house has had problems contacting the owner. We are due to go in July and can't remember the balance we need to pay or when. Tried leaving messages on her answer machine but to no avail. It sounds fab and have been waiting for this hoilday since we won the auction of promises for it last year. Hope we don't miss out
