Can anyone help ,Bovril has had alimp for last couple of weeks havetaken him to vets they cant find anything really wrong .

They think he might have strained his Flexor tendon  he has had 2 weeks on Rimadyl not much effect though ,I did notice last night that he has a scab between his 2nd 3rd toes could he have banged or broken his toe .

If he has would that explain why he finds it difficult to have his foot flat on ground or any one touching it .He is ok on carpet but outside he finds it very difficult we have been restricting his walk times and keeping him on grass where possible.

Any suggestions will be most gratefully recieved.

Hi there,

One time Eilidh jumped out of the back of the car and landed on a stone, which left a tiny wee cut on her pad.  Just like Bovril, she was fine indoors but as soon as she got outside onto a rough surface she would start to limp. This went on for just over a week.

My guess is that his cut foot could be causing him to limp and if you're not happy, I would also have his toes checked.  However, the vet may be right - after all s/he's the pro. It could be his tendon and maybe Bovril is just needing a different anti-inflammatory. We found that Whistler's arthritis didn't respond to Rimadyl so he changed to a different tablet called Zubrin.

Just a wee thought...have you checked the pads of his feet? Sometimes dogs get wee corns, which although tiny, can be very painful for them to walk on.

The main thing I guess is go with your gut feeling.  Take Bovril back until you feel sure you've got to the root of the problem.

I'd agree with Carol and take him back to the vet, 2 weeks is a fairly long time of a suspected sprain. The scab between the toes will be giving him bother so I'd suspect that possibly the root cause of the problem, I'd defo take him back to the vet....

Hi, sorry to hear about Bovril.

I had the same problem with Tiger and assumed it to be arthritis. It turned out he broke his toe at some point in his racing days and this is playing him up a bit now. I put him on the medication in the 'jolly joints' post below.

Glucosamine, I think that is spelt right!, Holland and Barratt have a sale on just now and it was a bargain! He also has cod liver oil capsules daily. He has improved with a few days rest and then smaller walks. We are now back to our normal ramble but wouldn't go on a really big walk yet.

This is a herbal remedy and therefore you can give it as well as the vets meds without interaction. It is a remedy used by people and if you read up on it it is quite successful on us too. I can't thank Suzanne enough it has turned Tiger around.

Hope this helps Em X
