Hi Julie Just want to add my support to you for this trying time. I have worked with a few people who have epilepsy. What I have noticed is that it can sometimes take a few goes before the right medication is found or adjusted. But once that is sorted, like the others have said, they have a perectly normal , happy life. But for you to watch, and see Ruby go through it is hard. When my Amber had a stroke at Easter and had to spend the weekend in the Vets I didn't sleep a wink. And had several weeks of sleepless nights afterwards. I was up everytime I heard her move in the night.I still do that even now. I hope the Vet gets the medication right soon and you can both get on with enjoying each others company. Very best wishes and healing thoughts to you both. Pauline, Jet and Amber.xxx
Thinking of you both. As you will know, it will take a while for medication to get intoRuby's system and start working to ist full extent, so try to think positive
We send lots of hugs and we are keeping everything crossed.
So glad that Ruby was a bit better yesterday! Hope she continues to improve. I agree with Dawn - sometimes alternative medication can help and it's always worth a try. But like your vet says, I'd wait that 7-10 days to see how she gets on with the medication he's prescribed.
You sound as if you could be doing with some proper relaxation too. Fingers crossed that everything with Ruby is OK now. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK.
Still thinking of you and Ruby. Sounds like she's getting the best possible care, from you and from the vet. She's a lucky girl to have such a devoted mummy.
hello to everyone. I am pleased to report that Ruby is much better. She really seems like her usual self. Since Monday we have been allowed to let her off the lead in the garden, so she has been running about a bit now, Still only lead walks for now, so no trips to the park just yet as the temptation would be too great for her with all those squirrells running about at this time of year. She does still try to drag me in that direction though!
She has put on some weight, it is visible. The vet said that she night, but that is ok because even as far as Greyhounds go Ruby was always very much on the skinny side!
We are back at the vets tomorrow for blood tests, so I'll have a bigger picture of how she is progressing then. To me she seems fine.
I'm starting to relax a bit more now. It's taken me some time to get to this point! I've not taken her in the car since this happened and am very wary about her going upstairs, as this is where the onset of the first fit occurred. But she's still managed to sneak up onto those beds a few times. I think my rehabilitation will take longer than hers.
Firework night was a nightmare for me. It was like downtown Basra out there, but Ruby stayed really calm and just cuddled up to me. Fireworks have never been a bother to her before, but this year I was worried as it was so soon after the fit. She was as chilled out as ever!
So glad that Ruby is keeping a lot better and is more like her usual self. It's good too that you are starting to relax a bit more. Let us know how she gets on at the vet tomorrow.
Vet was pleased with Ruby's blood tests and she seems fine within herself. She has put on some weight though, but looks much better for it. Even by Greyhound standards she was always on the thin side. Now if they could just produce a pill for anxious owners things will be fine!
Delighted that the vet is pleased with Ruby's blood tests and that she's keeping fine now. It's great that you can relax too, now that everything is under control. Let us know how she's getting on.
Jusy an update on Ruby. She has been fine, but the change in her apperance is amazing. She was always a thin dog, despite the vast quantities of food she ate. We were always able to feel her microchip through her skin, like a grain of rice.
Not any more. She has put on a bit of weight and looks much better for it. We can no longer feel the chip.
Most amazing is her hair growth. Like many of your pets she was plagued by baldness. Bald thighs, bum belly & even neck at times. Having shared the views on this forum I chnaged her food to burns, tried aloe vera and even used oil supplements from the vets. Thryroid checked out ok. Any periods of hair growth were soon dashed by returning baldness. This is a dog who has never raced & lived in the lap of comfort her whole life! She was very bald.
She now has the most amazing furry soft coat, It is unbelievable. The only bald area left is her belly, but I even see hair growth there. Fingers crossed she will be fine, because she is looking in the winderful condition.
Many thanks to everyone who replied to my posting. You are very kind people who helped me through a difficult time. Love & luck for the new year to you all.
