A hero lies within...

Walkies at our usual park today took a wee hairy moment...my 2 run off lead at all times in this park as it is a very safe area they know like the back of their paws.

They both love running through the trees & river ....today, bounded up 2 bloomin enormous Ridgebacks - at least 40lbs each & they locked sights on Maisie & bombed after her. I happen to know these dogs & their owners - they are brother & sister owned 2 friends. They are fine if you meet them individually but a nightmare when together. They really made for Maiz - she bombed across the river & up a big embankment & round the trees to try & get away from them but they were hot on her heels & blatently ignoring their owners screaming at them!

Even though I knew these dogs wouldnt bite her if they caught her, 80lbs of dogs chasing you had her scared witless...then from the corner of my eye, i caught a glimpse of a black flash....

Murphy had stood by my side watching the whole thing & obviously thought enough is enough.

He hit full pelt & ran the 500 or so yards to catch up with the chase & screetched to a hault in front to the 2 Ridgebacks, sandwiching himself between them & Maisie. Honestly, I swear i could see him grow in stature before me - he stood rigid, eyeballing the biggest of the 2 pursuers & every time it moved to get past him, Murf blocked his way. No growling, just standing his ground.

i was so proud. The ridgeback owners leashed their dogs up & apologised profusely - they were truly mortified as they know Maisie & her backround...

Murf never left Maisies side for the rest of the walk & Maisie has been curled up next to him on the sofa ever since we got back

Her hero! (and mine :)

What a wonderful hero Murph makes! You must be so proud of him, Suzanne - that he won't tolerate his girl being bullied by other dogs. Give him a great big hug from me and Vegas!

Well done Murph, sometimes you just need a good reason to fight, eh? Blue, grudgingly, would like me to pass on his respect.
