Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd tell you about our new foster dog Lady. She was at the Sunday Christmas Show the little brindle and white girl who Dave described as short and stumpy!!! (she is but very cute)

Well she came home with us yesterday and we are so impressed with her. She came straight from racing kennels to us but you'd think she'd been in a house all her life. She is very laid back and quiet and just loves my kids.

Sunny was very put out when she arrived yesterday but seems alot happier today and has been bouncing around trying to get Lady to play.

Will post some photos soon (ok might need Dave to help with that)

Landess, sunny and Lady

Thanks everyone

Lady is doing great we really are impressed with her, and how easy she has settled. No grumbles or growls yet so fingers crossed her and sunny seem to be getting on really well.

Can I just say I think shes the slowest greyhound in history bless her. You can see Sunny looking at her sometimes as though to say "hurry up". She's only 2 but acts 12!!!!!

We let her off the lead tonight in a fenced area where we exercise Sunny, and while Sunny whizzed round at full speed Lady just stayed by my side. I even tryed running about with her. I sprinted off across the field and turned round and there she was just trotting along not in a hurry at all.

Will try to post some photos soon.

Hi Landess

Lady sounds so laid back and gentle - exactly like her name, in fact! Amazing when you think she's only 2 that she's happy to plod along, but it takes all sorts. She sounds lovely!

Landess,

How lovely for Sunny to get a playmate, I am sure that once she gets used to Sunny, Lady will get a bit more playfull and a bit less ladylike. Both mine came straight from racing kennels too and both settled well. I think it takes a week or so before the cheeky side comes out though. There is no stopping Chad now (we have called him Hong Kong Phooey now as a nickname due to his kickboxing skills!) I have the clawmarks to prove it -but he is funny!

Lady is doing great we have no complaints about her at all (except I wish she'd walk a bit faster when its really cold!!!)

We had her at the vet tonight for her health check and she was so well behaved.  she even ignored a cat in a basket which i was very impressed with.

The only problem is Sunny seems really down. She's stopped trying to play and one of my kids said tonight "Sunny has stopped wagging her tail mum."  They get on well still no growls or grumbles and they have even been sharing the couch. We all make sure we fuss Sunny first and I always feed her first etc but she just seems a bit put out.  Has any one else had this when a new dog has come along? Any suggestions

Landess,

I had the same thing with Luca when we got Eilidh.  He got really mopey and depressed for a wee while but we just made sure that he knew we loved him and he came round.

It is kinda hard to see just now, I know, but Sunny will be fine.

Thanks for posting the pic for me Dave.

Lady is doing great. Her and Sunny seem alot happier together now and they have started to run round together and play.

Lady found an abandoned football at the park the other night and she had so much fun chasing it around and throwing it about. It was great to see her having so much fun and wagging that tail. It brough a tear to my eye Just seeing her puppy side come out made all the stress of house training and puddles in the first few weeks worth it. Thanks for all your help with that Siouxsie

Glad none of you mentioned her big ears in the photo. Shes a bit sensitive after a guy at the park said we should change her name to Lugs!!! grrrrrr  Bless her.

She's beautiful, Landess! And her lugs are very expressive too! They're just great! I'm sure Sunny and Lady will work things out themselves before long. It just takes a wee bit time to let them get used to each other.

Hi Everyone I'm a bit down typing this. Lady is doing great, she really is comming on so well and is such a special little dog I love her to bits. We agreed to foster Lady so she wouldn't have to spend Christmas in kennels, but secretly I was hoping we could keep her. Sadly I've had to agree with Steve today that our flat just isn't big enough for 3 kids and two dogs. And that poor Sunny just isn't that happy with another dog around. The more Ladys character comes out the more Sunny regresses into herself.  I feel sick with the thought that she will one day leave us for her forever home and I know there will be lots and lots of tears when she goes. So I'm just off to give her an extra big cuddle and hope she dosn't have to leave us to soon.

How do all you foster carers do it without getting to attatched? I know I'll feel proud of her when she finds her forever home because she's such a great little dog and will give somebody alot of love and fun but I know I'm really going to miss her.

Landess, you have done a wonderful job with Lady and it is sad when they move on, but thats what we do, we are just a cog in the big wheel.  I cried buckets when Aaron (now Robbie) found his forever home, and to make matters worse, he watched me out of the back window of their car with such a sad look in his eyes.  I just wanted to run after the car and tell them that i would keep him.

Through my tears I went straight onto the chatroom and my friends at GAL who had all been in that situation  helped me.

I know in my heart that Aaron is in a good home with a good family and probably wont even remember me now!!

Its always difficult, but where would these dogs be if it wasnt for people like you helping them on their way........even if it costs us a bubble!

And look forward to telling everyone one day that Lady was YOUR FOSTER, you will feel so proud!

Dawn, Mac, Den, Presley and the little one xx

Landess, As you know I have never fostered and I think all the foster people do an absolutely fantastic deed. I can only say listen to what Dawn is saying.

You keep your chin up and remember you should be extremely proud of yourself for giving Lady all this tlc which will help so much when she does eventually go to her forever home.

Hi Landess

We only fostered the once and then it was only for 2 weeks, it was quite stressful at the time as Blue didn't take too well having to share his mum and dad.

We loved our foster dog very much and both said that if situations had been different we would have loved to have kept him.

You get by when they leave knowing that they have gone to a place where they can get all the love and attention they so need and that you helped them when they needed someone the most.

Good look, take lots of photos and enjoy her whilst you have her

Amanda xx

Hi everyone well that day has come a family are comming to see Lady in the morning. Fingers crossed it sounds a great home with another greyhound and just the sort of loving family she deserves.  I wont pretend their wont be lots of tears when she goes. I've spent all day thinking should we keep her? What if I regret it once shes gone, but I know its the right thing to do Lady and Sunny just havn't bonded.

Dawn everything you said has really helped thank you. And after a long chat with Steve today we are keen to keep fostering.

Will keep you all upto date with how Lady gets on.

Landess Sunny and Lady.
