Flaky Skin
Permalink Closed

Is there a cure for flaky skin/dandruff, or is it just something that passes? My Billy has always had it, but it looked ten times worse today when I took off his coat after a long and energetic walk. It's almost as though he sheds skin after vigorous exercise...

Just wondered if anyone has come across this sort of thing before and knows of any good herbal remedies?

Also, if anyone reading this knows of any non-narcotic tranquilisers, can they point me in the right direction? I discovered (the hard way) that my dog is petrified of fireworks, and there is an estate nearby that does a 5-hour show on New Year's Day. I don't particularly want to drug my dog up with pills from the vet, so any alternative suggestions would be gladly welcomed!

put a little 'dribble' of olive oil on his food, will get rid of the dandruff AND make his coat all shiny looking in no time!!...

If you do a search on the forum for 'fireworks' you'll find a number of useful threads, hopefully should help!...

Also Evening Primrose is great for skin (as well as joints)

It'll probably pass. When i first got Millie, she had a really flakey coat. There was huge big flakes all the way along her back. I just popped in her in the bath and gave her a good scrub under the shower head using a tea tree shampoo. For a few weeks i put a few table spoonfuls of oil in her food and now her coat is gleaming! She looks like a princess

Oily fish, like sardines, mackerel or pilchards would also help Billy's flaky skin. Vegas loves the pilchards in tomato sauce I get in tins from the supermarket. A couple of them mashed in with his dried food every other week or so keeps his coat in great condition.

Sunnys coat was the same when we got her a few baths and some olive oil and its really gleaming.

If Billy was in kennels before he came to you comming into the house with central heating can really dry the skin out but it should settle.
