I love GSDs (long haired of course) (had one for 10 years before Sascha & Alfie & the cats), St Bernards, Newfoundlands (especially Landseers) & recently (as a couple in our village have 2) Hovawarts.  Amazingly all long-haired dogs even though I love greys.

PS forgot I had been looking up a website abt rescuing a white boxer before we got Sascha (as I hate how they are binned just because of their colour - although I know that they have a few medical problems)

Hi Suzanne, any excuse to show them off! Their names are Isaac and Riley and are living in almost perfect harmony with Cosmo and Mister.

They're on here:-

If someone said I was only allowed to have a very small dog - I would choose a Daschund.

Dave, I had never heard of or seen a 'Borzoi" until I met the couple from Dumfriesshire with theirs at the Strathie walk last month.

Think I will need to ask Santa for a Dog Encylcopedia!!

Fiona, thanks for sharing your ratty pics. They're great.

Someone I spoke to whilst doing the Edinburgh can collection knew a bit about greyhounds, and described them as being like huge mice !!!

Can I just say white (and coloured with "too much" white) boxers are almost as misunderstood as greys, and do not necesarily have any medical problems. Many are binned as pups purely because of their colour as the Kennel Club standard is that a boxer has to have less than 1/3rd white.

This is really hard I just can't think. It would have to be a rescue with a hard luck story as most of you have said.

I had a black lab before Sunny we had her 14 years but she never had the affect Sunny has had on me in a few short months.

My dog when we were growing up was a Yellow lab cross he had had a really bad life and had gone from home to home biting everyone. In the first two weeks of having him he had bitten everyone in our family but my mum was amazing with him and he turned out to be the best dog ever. He was 16 when he was PTS. So yip I'd say a mongrel.

okay I have thought about this and its maybe a wee bit of a cheat but a Magyar Agar would be nice.

And i suppose when we look back most dogs have greyhound blood in them somewhere along the line, I know for sure Vizslas have.

Love the rat pics Fiona, I had three rats before I had Casper - Wayne, Garth & Milton. Sadly they passed away last year, but they were my wee babies. When my son is old enough, and begs me for a pet I will say "yes, you can have some rats!" - I can't wait!

  Hi all,

Just putting my wee bit in, if i'd got my way we'd have a Boxer i love them i'd still get one but Keera has a slight problem with anything ungreyhound.

Good news for you Amanda we have a dog with webbed feet and he's a greyhound (Bud) you should look out for him at the next GAL event he's the big black boy that's always barking.....

As well as my Greyhound and Lurcher I have a German Shepherd and a Cocker Spaniel. But if I HAD to choose another dog I think I would go for a wolfhound. I still think the greyhounds are the easiest going out of the lot though

I have always had a soft spot for Standard Poodles!

However - my husband has difficulty getting past their hairstyles.  And - I was always going to go the rescue route.

Our hounds are adorable, and we constantly wonder why anyone would have any other type of dog.

But - I still have that soft spot!

Hi CJ, glad you liked the pics. I think you'll agree rats make the perfect dog substitute, they are so easy to train and are very affectionate. Your son would love them, they make the perfect first pet. In pairs or more though! People think hamsters or rabbits are good for kids, bur definitely not!

OK, my first choice would be a feathered Saluki, but that's a cheat since they're pointy dogs too!

If there were no pointy dogs....then a Springer spaniel, as they are just so nice & friendly, though do need a lot of springy exercise or a German Sheperd - or one of each, why not! Also think Cavalier King Charles are adorable - any dog really, except terriers, not that keen on them, or labs.
