We collected Biscuit on 4 December, and discerned from the papers, (and photo of his mum and dad) which came with him that he is a Whippet lurcher. His dad is a whippet and he has a beard like his mother!. He's 8 months, stands about 24 inches at the shoulder, brindle coat, giant ears that stand right up, and amber eyes - the better to twist you around his paw!
The first week we were all tense (we are new to this too), but we stuck to clockwork feed and walks, and things are now coming together. The vet said he was a bit underweight, so we are giving him a bit more, but already his diet and exercise are paying off, as we can see his leg muscle coming in.
Biscuit knows most commands and is good at obeying if not over excited and he is listening. Just want to get his recall at bit better, but he enjoys his time off the lead and comes back when ready, and keeps us in sight.
We are lucky where we are for walks as we have a lake and woods about 20 mins away, and he really does love it off the lead there, and looks like a deer in the woods. He was really good about the water, stopping at the edge, and I put him on the lead if there are swans etc. However, one day, a stray coot ran off the grass, across our path, Biscuit gave chase and forgot to stop at the water. He ran on water for about 2 secs, and I was just about to wade in, when he turned and swam back to shore, mighty shocked, but fine.
We are seeing his humour and intelligence coming out, now that he is more relaxed. He likes to play finding the treat under the cup etc., and he has a very sweet nature. He is quite brave, showing no nerves around other dogs etc., and likes to wind up dogs behind fences who act manic when he is walking by.
Out walking we were so smug when we stopped to chat to a dalmatian puppy and owner, and a jogger ran by, stopped and exclaimed "What a gorgeous dog" and bee lined to Biscuit!
Hope all those that met Biscuit find this reassuring that he is thriving.
So pleased you have stopped lurking now Valerie and looking forward to more of your posting about your life with Biscuits which I am sure will be full of fun. Talk to you really soon and maybe meet for a walk in the New Year.
A warm welcome to you Valerie. It is great to hear how well Biscuit is doing. I fell in love with him on the website he is such a loveable little dog, if the whippet part of him is like our Sasha, you will have a dog that will follow you to the ends of the earth please keep telling us about him and his progress. When you find your feet on the forum some piccies would be nice. Do not know where you live , but hopefully we will meet some day on one of the walks. All the best. Nora and the Gang.

I'm so very glad that Biscuit has settled in well with you. I have to say though, I never doubted for a moment that he would as you guys seemed so smitten with him when you met at Strathclyde Park.
Keep us up to date and I hope to see you all again soon. Maybe next time we meet, I'll have my lurchers with me as well.
Young Biscuit sounds like fun. I hope that you will keep posting now so that we can all hear more, welcome to you and your family, I was unsure at first but everyone is really great Em, Tig and Chad XXX
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome , speaking of which......... being my first posting and not knowing folks too well, I kept the issue of the evil smelling flatulence, hogging the couch, shoe stealing etc., to myself! I do mean the Biscuit............but I'm sure you guessed that!
Valerie - I met you as you made your decision to adopt the wee scone at the xmas show - I was most jealous as he is just edible - as his name suggests!! Delighted you are all enjoying each other - please do keep us posted as he really did melt a few hearts at this end!!
Loads of cuddles to the wee man & a HUGE well done to you & your family

Hi Valerie and Biscuit, you adopted Biscuit the same day we adopted Daz
Glad to hear your fella is also coming out of his shell and showing his character. It's wonderful to see that. Have to say we also discovered the evil flatulence but it's dwindling a bit as he settles in.
Look forward to hearing more from you now you've come out of forum lurkdom :)
I met you at Strathclyde park when you were collecting Biscuit, we were collecting Lady to foster. Really glad Biscuit is doing so well, he really is a cutie.
Hope to see you on a walk soon.
Landess Sunny and Lady
