On Christmas Day we drove up the hill from where we live - overlooking Loch Long - to a path which runs along the side of the hill above.
It was a beautiful day: cold and bright - the best sort of winter day. As we drove up the hill we drove through cloud and out the other side. The cloud can be seen lying in the glen between the hills behind us.
As we finished the walk the cloud/mist was creeping up the hill and beginning to envelope the path - so we just got our walk in in time!
here we are at the start - with doggles showing off their new, double thickness fleeces: ideal for sub-zero temperatures!
off we go
you can see the cloud in the glen behind us
Skipper had his first off-lead experience outside of the garden
coming to the end - heading back home for the Christmas Day blow-out
Lucretia - the landscape is probably misleading you - we are quite high up and what looks like water behind is actually low cloud - so the mountains on the other side are much bigger than they look in these pics. We actually live between the two sets of hills (below that cloud) overlooking Loch Long on the west coast.
Charles - that path is off the 'haul' road from Loch Lomond - as you drop down on our side. It is used by the army for exercises - so if red flags are flying then you can't walk (unless you are happy to risk getting shot). You can walk right along it until you are overlooking Portincaple, but we didn't go that far as we were walking into the cloud by then - so we turned back.
It was a really good place to let Skipper have a cavort though cos there were no distractions such as other dogs (which he is a bit obsessed by), and a fence on one side so they couldn't go down the hill.
Beautiful shots of the mist in the valley, I just love to see that . Looks like a gorgeous place to walk and so peaceful. The coats looked so cosy on your lovely dogs. What a way to spend Christmas morning. Nora

Looks absolutely GREAT, you make me soooo jealous I can only imagine how lovely it is there. I live in the suberbs now but look forward to the day that I can move to the sticks where I grew up. I have only visited Scotland once (and that was with work) I flew to Prestwick and stayed in Ayr near the station I think. I drove to Loch Lomand briefly, just to look and it was absolutely lovely.
Dogs look well and love the coats (I bet its braceing there) I wonder if you get fed up with the camera attention, my husband got a new one for xmas (silly me) and has been following us ever since.
What fantastic pics and the pooches look so cosy in their fleeces.I hope you don't mind me asking, but where did you get them as I never seem to see nice brightly coloured ones.

Shirley - I sent for those coats from Canada. They have their lovely GAL ones for normal chilly conditions, but these ones are double thickness with a chest piece which goes between their front legs and fastens up over their backs.
I bought them because they spend the day in the car when I am at work and we have a lovely big walk at lunch time in Balloch Country Park.
Suzie (age 10) also wears an old down filled gilet when she is in the car - I put her front legs through the arm holes and zip it up her back. She lies in it in the car like a duvet - and she loves it (and I don't need to worry about her).
