I had to take Noah into the vets this morning & leave him there for some stitches in his side, he was there yesterday & the vet asked me to bring him back in this morning for a bit of sedation so he could stitch his side.
Took him in at 8.30am & he was chattering his teeth & looking at me with the saddest eyes like I was going away to leave him forever, I did try to reassure him that I would be back but it still never made me feel any better.
He was off the lead running with Dinah the other day & as usual the two of them were playing chases & he was barking at her (in a nice way not vivious) but she barked back & caught him on his side & tore a piece of his skin (not in a vicious way either) so came home & I must say he was very brave cause he really is usually a big woose cleaned it up & took him to the vet, so thats my story now I'm off to get a coffee & watch the clock til I can call the vet at 1pm & see how he is doing!
They don't call 'em puppy dog eyes for nothing... I hate the sad eyed look! After about five minutes of being back home, no doubt Noah will have forgotten all about it, but I know that you, like me, will probably still feel sorry for him for having been left at the vet's!
I have to leave Billy at the vet's tomorrow morning at 8:30 for a full dental, so it will be me getting the sad-eye treatment tomorrow, especially since I'm not allowed to feed him tonight and I can't pick him up again until after 3:30!!!
these things happen. It happens to my dog Luca all the time. This year he has had umpteen sets of staples and superglue...in fact we had to do an emergency dash to the vets on Christmas Eve for him to have yet another set of staples in his neck. It always happens the same way as you have just described as well.
You have to weigh up the dogs' quality of life...I guess they'd rather have a good play and a wee cut now and again than not have any fun at all so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for that Carol, I was starting to wonder should I let them off separatley but I have tried that & they just stand & look at one an other like "well come on then"
Aw, poor Noah - never mind, when he gets home he'll probably realise just how much spoiling him you'll have to do to make up for taking him to the "bad vets". How many tins of sardines do you have in the cupboard??
They are so good at making you feel bad. Unfortunately Kirk has had about 3 gashes in his side due to playing rough and it doesn't matter what precautions you take if it's going to happen it'll happen!!!
Kirk is so accident prone and so used to going to the vets he almost doesn't react at all, I don't know what's worse!!! I feel guilty and blame myself for every accident he has but he is the dog that broke his toe and was to be kept in the house resting and managed to fall down the stairs and get carpet burns down his legs!!
Ouch....Just in from work & poor Noah has a bald side & a shaved paw, feeling very sorry for himself, but still managed a wag from his tail. Back to vets on Saturday morning for a check on the stitches so just need to take it easy until then.
Noah says a big thankyou for all your hugs, he will be back to normal soon.
When I read your first posting, I fully sympathised. I am dreading having to take Tyler to the vet for sedation for a dental and having to leave her there!! We have never done this before & know I will spend every minute worrying about her. But it does help to read others experiences.
Yes it is a worry, the vet told me to call at 1pm to see how he was doing & of course I watched the clock til it got to 1pm & I could not get through until 1.35pm (that engaged tone was driving me mad) however he is doing alot better today last night he had a few whines because he must have been sore but today he so much brighter, the vet told us to walk them both separatley because he has just to have some gentle walks for the next few days - easier said than done because he will NOT do the toilet in the garden & he is the worst dog for pooing it has to be just the right spot!!!! so today I took them both out together & he was dragging me round the block until he found that spot
Back to vets in morning for a check up but I'm sure he will be back to his old self sooner than later
Good luck with Tylers dental I'm sure she will be fine (word of advise "don't look into her eyes when leaving her)
