Welcome to the Greyhound Awareness League’s KENNEL FUND!

So what is the kennel fund? The Kennel Fund is going to take the form of a 3 year fundraising campaign to help raise a total of £60,000 for GAL. That’s £20,000 per year for the next 3 years! It’s a big total but we’re look forward to having a large number of fun fundraising activities!! Our main asset here is YOU GUYS! We’d love for you to donate and there’s various ways to do this however we’d like you guys to work with us to help raise funds from out with our GAL and Forum membership base!

We’ll be posting details of how you can all help and get involved over the next 3 years!! So please get involved. We also have our brand new website which will be up and running very soon where you’ll find lots of ways to help out, watch out for a web site announcement very soon and pay a visit, you’ll find lots of exciting info on there including a big countdown of how much money has been raised and much more!

So, the big question is WHY and WHAT FOR? It’s simple really, over the last few years GAL has reached breaking point on a number of occasion, we get the situation where we’ve simply not enough kennel and foster homes available to cater for the number of dogs looking for homes. As an average this year we’ve had 70 dogs looking for homes, this usually consists of 30 dogs in kennels and 20 in foster homes, doing the sums that means the remaining 20 have to stay with their trainers till we can find space for them, some of these dogs are priority and we often receive less than 24 hours notice to move a dog before they are put to sleep.

The money we raise over the next 3 years from the kennel fund will be used as a down payment on a purpose built (and the country’s first) GREYHOUND SANCTUARY. Being a charity we cannot gain a 100% mortgage on new facilities so we need the money up front to use as a deposit.

The idea of the Sanctuary will be a place for GAL to operate out of, we’ll have enough kennel’s to cope with any number of dogs handed into us, which saves dogs lives! The sanctuary will also give us the added benefit of having a place, fully staffed, that can be open to the public to allow them to go and meet our homeless hounds, we all know with Greyhounds it’s love at first sight!

I’ve been posting interesting facts for the last month, some of them we’re meant to inform, I guess some of them were meant to shock. All these facts are true. With your help in helping GAL achieve our dream of a Greyhound Sanctuary we can all do our bit to ensure no more Greyhounds are needlessly killed in Scotland and even better we can find even more great homes for these wonderful creatures.

So what next?...Keep your eyes glued to this forum, we’ll have lots of ideas where you can help get involved and we’ll be inviting ideas from you guys. It’s going to be a long road but with your help we can get there!
