Oh no theres a new dog next door a little lab/collie cross it sneaks under the fence into the garden .
Thats ok he doesnt mess BUT Bov goes MENTAL he nearly went through the living room window this morning trying to get to it.
He barks ,whines his birse is up and his tail is wagging like mad despite trying shutting the curtains, distraction etc he wont give up till he gets out ,I dont let him out until the dog has gone inside .
Does he want to fight or play? any suggestions would be great thanks Denise (Bovs Mum)
It sounds like a very territorial reaction. It can be a bit confusing when we see the wagging of the tail, but this can just be the excitement, but not in the playing nature.
It would maybe be worth asking the neighbours if they can maybe stop the dog coming through (i.e. keeping a better eye on it in the garden).
Thanks Siouxsie the dog next door is male and very small he jumps up at people and Bov even goes daft when its in its own garden!.
Will wait till better weather and hopefully try to introduce them Bov with Muzzle on as hes no keen on other dogs .
His tail is very high when wagging and he sounds like hes crying to get out to him ,just dont want him going head first through the window will have to paint the windows black(wont need to clean them ha ha),any way thanks again Denise and Bov
The very high tail is Bov trying to be at a higher stance.
My advice would be when you can get round to meeting away from the houses, just try and talk to neighbour at first from a distance then move onto letting Bov and the other dog have a sniff (muzzled) - any signs of hackles up or any slight form of aggression move away from eachother and maybe try walking behind for a while, eventually to build up to walking back together to your houses. This may take quite a few attempts to move to this stage.
About the dog coming into the garden if there is anyway possible to have the bits blocked where he can come in, would definitely be advantage especially as you say about the large window area.
Oh yikes! What if the neighbour's dog gets into your garden when your dog is out there? Could be a disaster...think shoring up the garden fencing somehow to prevent the dog coming into your garden is vital. From what you describe, your dog's reactions don't sound at all friendly to the intruder; as suggested you could with the co-operation of the neighbour try introducing them with caution in neutral territory (I would muzzle yours if you do - is he normally OK with small dogs or is this a prey drive reaction?), but IMO the best solution is to ensure that dog does not get into your garden.
