When Pearly wants out for pee or poos she walks to the window and looks out or mithers around like she has ants in her pants.
Harry is like a camel - stores liquids forever! How can we get him to tell us when he wants to go? We've had him for 9 months and he's never soiled inside but even now he doesn't show us any signs when he wants to go - he just goes when Pearly goes.
Fiona's friend has two dogs and they live in a top floor flat - their dogs ring a bell when they need to go so will ask about that one.
good question. if we are upstairs, daisy whines to let us know. if we are downstairs, she'll just walk to the back door and look out, expecting us to read her mind. if we don't have the telepathic radars on, she occasionally wees on her bed!!!
dave, however, is another matter. he, like your Harry, can hold anything in for hours !!! we make sure he's given the opportunity to go out if they've been left on their own and we have to almost drag him out for his night-time wee !! other than that, he'll happily hang on to it until we decide it's time for him to go out!
if Harry is desperate to go out, i'd think he would certainly let you know but he seems happy to fit in with your routine. i wouldn't worry about it.
I think male dogs can hang on for longer than females. My 2 bitches if they need a pee, or a poo, they always go and stand at the door or they come and put their heads on my knee and stare at me till i get up.
Toby on the other hand can hang on for hours. Sometimes he wont even get off the couch to come out for pee pee's last thing so he lasts till the morning without having gone
I agree, im sure he would let you know if he was desperate to get out.

its a facinating subject - murphy without doubt barks in your face and doesnt stop til you get up....i hoped this would rub off on Maisie as when i got her 6mths ago she would pee in the house if desperate. She still doesnt make a noise - ever - iver heard her "speak" a few times when she has been playing with Murf & on the odd occassion she will bark at dogs if she feels threatened. In the last month or so tho she now comes up & nudges me with her nose & this is her signal for the toilet - if Im not in she just crosses her legs. Bless her - she even once came up and "talked to me" in a grumbly muttering way that only sad gits can understand - I immediately said - "do you need to "get busy" Maisie?' - and she nudged me to go out....bless....
it has taken her 6mths tho to figure out how to communicate that with me so give Hazza a chance to figure out his cue - a bell might work for him, it might not - maybe hes a typical bloke & will let the girl do all the work for him !!

We haven't really figured this one out for sure. When Daz definitely wants to go he acts very restless and looks at the door a bit and starts to sniff around the house as if sussing out prosprective pee places. We've had a couple of accidents this way by not spotting 'The Look' soon enough and he can be darn quick to cock that leg if he wants to.
There seems no pattern in how long he can hold it. Sometimes he gets desperate within and hour so that I can be really doubtful that his restlessness is really to do with peeing but I tend to take him out anyway and he pees and pees (we've even started timing it... longest on count so far is seventy seconds of peeing!) Other times he will hang on to it forever and it can be a good six hours or so.
I've wondered about what impact the male marking has on the whole thing. He never really seems to fully empty himself because he's always got something on reserve for marking if he wants to. When we go for walks there always seems to be a drop left for every single thing we pass that he fancies as a target so I sometimes wonder if the short times he can last before needing out again relate to him coming home with too much stored.
I got in this lunchtime after a couple of hours out, took him to the garden and offered him a pee but he just wouldn't consider it. He's never passed up a chance to pee on something before Dunno what that was about.
I'd certainly like it if he could get a bit clearer about the signal of needing before having to try and catch him before he pees on something in the house. Ringing a bell sounds wonderful!
Sasha sings ( or howls as Derek says ) I prefere sings, and Cas plants herself right in front of you and stares. In general if one does there thing I tend to take them both out and they pee in stereo. Nora
