Sally, my first foster dog arrived last night. She is a little fawn girl and is 8 years old. All I really know about her history is that she has lived with a family for 6 years but due to a divorce she is now looking for a new permanent home. She is a real sweetie - very pretty, delicate and sweet natured. She walks well on the lead, and is great with my son Aedan. So far her and Casper aren't that interested in each other - Casper has tried to play with her a couple of times but she just stood and looked the other way pretending she couldn't see him.

Casper immediately stole the duvet I put down for Sally to sleep on, so she stole Caspers bed! - serves him right! He looked pretty miffed when he saw her sleeping in his bed but just wandered back to what was supposed to be Sallys bed and lay down with a big sigh.

Here are some pictures of her - I think you will agree, she is a real cutie!

So pleased you have your first foster babe, she does look lovely . Good luck and I can only repeat what Esther says ' I'm sure you will be a great fosterer'. Can't wait for more photos and stories about Sally and Casper, which will all help in getting Sally on her way to her forever home.

Sally is certainly putting Casper to shame! Sally is well behaved, very obedient and very sweet, compared to Casper who is clumsy, stubborn and crazy! Having Sally has really made me realise how immature Casper is as she is so calm and wise. Her good influence has been wearing off a bit already though. I don't know if it's just coincidence but last night and this morning Casper was not pulling on the lead and was happy to trot beside Sally and I. And even today at the field, instead of dive bombing us like he usually does when he's off the lead he seemed a lot calmer, he ran off and did his own thing but when he came back he just walked beside us. Strange.
Although Sally is very calm and quiet I saw a little more of her playful side today, she has been playing with a ball and rolling about the rug having fun with a cuddly duck toy. It's nice to see her enjoying herself. (Casper doesn't think so, he wants his toys back!)

Sorry to disappoint you all but I will not be keeping Sally. I would LOVE to keep her as she really is a sweetheart and is the perfect dog, but I can only fit two dogs in my house at a time so I wouldn't be able to foster again if I kept her. I am confident that she will find a new home quickly as she has such a nice nature. Fingers crossed for her anyway.

Jane

Just remembered I had a wee question - Casper keeps putting Sallys head in his mouth. He is not agressive but I was just wondering what it means. I presumed it was him saying he's the dominant one but he lets her eat first and waits for her to choose her bed, then he lies down in the other, which I thought meant she was boss. Just wondering if it was normal and why he was doing it.

Hiya, if he is just doing this gently, its maybe just a sign of affection or playing. I have seen other dogs do this in play, they dont actually bite, just put their chops round the other ones head lol

Have just done a double take, she sure looks like my Chad right down to the stretched out position in the last pic. Must therefore be totally gorgeous (although my two lads call him the alien because of his huge seemingly whiteless alien dark eyes!)

Sally went to her new home yesterday!!!!

I took her to Strathclyde Park yesterday to meet her new friend Caleb. They got on fine and off she trotted with her new owner. I am really happy for her, she is a lovely girl and really deserves a loving home. I only had her for two weeks but she made quite an impression on me and my family, we will miss her, but are very pleased she has a forever home now. Casper is pretty depressed today, I am presuming that is normal and he will get over it in a few days? He is getting lots of cuddles to make him feel better anyway and I am sure he will be fine.

Here are some more pictures of her and Casper, they really hit it off and became best pals

A little play fight...

Doing what they do best...

More of what they do best...

You were right Jennifer about Casper mouthing Sally - he was just trying to play. Once Sally started to play too it was pretty obvious what they were doing, but it just looked strange the first couple of days when Sally was just standing still and Casper was trying to fit her head in his mouth!

They liked playing together (well more Casper than Sally really)
Just for fun:

Sally: mmm this is a nice toy to chew.

Casper: Hey that's my toy

Casper: Give me it!

Sally: I don't think so!

Casper: She's dropped it! If I can just trip her over...

Sally: I'm fed up with this, I'll just have this toy
Casper: Well if she doesn't want it I don't either

Sally: I just want to chew a toy in peace!

What lovely pictures of the two of them. They look so sweet together

Its good that she has found her forever home so quickly and that you got to meet her new owners.  You must feel so satisfied knowing you have helped her out and passed her onto a loving home.

Wonder when you will get your next foster dog

Poor Casper feeling a bit lonely but im sure he will get back to him normal self soon

How sweet that they would sleep in the same bed.  Mine almost never sleep in the same bed - I hoped they would (to take up less space ) but no!  In fact I think Sim has an inflated idea of his own personal space requirement as he will lie on one bed, with his head on another, and then growl at Suzie or Skipper if they want to lie on the bed his head is on!!!  Nothing ever comes of it though - it's all 'talk'!!

Hi Jane

Great pictures of Caspar and Sally playing and sleeping together. Bet you'll miss her almost as much as Caspar! She's a wee beauty and good luck to her in her new home!
