Apologies for not being on the forum much over the last few months but things have been a bit hectic to say the least. Anyway, I know a lot of you know George and Maia, so I wanted to let you know how they are getting on.
They have settled in very well and although they are not the best trained dogs in the world, on the whole they are very well behaved. They cope well with us being at work all day and enjoy their daily visit from our friend who pops in at lunchtime to let them out and make a fuss of them. In fact he often pops in at the weekends when we are here, just to say hello to them! (Before you ask, we have already tried to convince him of the joys of being a greyhound owner, but to no avail!)
On the downside we have had one cut paw, 2 upset stomachs, and a completely trashed garden! Dave, if you are reading this, you will not be surprised that they have made a greyhound track around our lovely garden and due to their speed and braking technique there is very little grass left! They go absolutely bananas when they are in the garden and because we have quite a big open garden, they can get up a fair bit of speed. Unfortunately for them, they are being allocated a part of the garden that is soon to be fenced off. The Jag. is on its way out (cream leather seats and dogs don't mix) but Richard is using this as an excuse to buy an environmental hazard jeep type thing.
On the upside, they are the most loved dogs in the world who give us so much love back. There are always 2 waggy tails waiting for us when we come home from work and getting up early doesn't seem so bad when there are doggy cuddles waiting at the bottom of the stairs. We are all enjoying the exercise too and looking forward to lighter evenings so we can take them a bit further afield after work.
I have attached some pictures, but we hope to see some of you at GAL events in the future.
The pics are lovely! George and Maia look so happy, Bless! Isn't it funny how getting greyhounds completely disrupt your life but you just don't mind? Its fab!!
Great photos! George & Maia both look fantastic! I can't wait to meet them again...
They still seem as cheeky as ever... I still can't get over how elegant they both look compared to their brother Malcolm. I see they both have speckles through their coat though. Strangely Malcolm didn't get his speckles until he was an adult and was pure white apart from the brindle patches until then.
I can sympathise with the garden thing. We tried re-turfing but that didn't work, then fenced off the turf and left a track of bark around the outside which our dogs hate (too wet in winter and too brittle in summer) and is totally pointless anyway! I think we'll try laying slabs as suggested by everyone else....
