Max started shaking his head about at the start of the weekend. When we looked inside his ear it was full of wax throughout although he had an ear check & clean by us not long ago. However, we cleaned his ear out with pet ear cleaning solution, but the next day he was obviously suffering, as he was walking around with head tilted to one side, still shaking it, & wincing in pain with sudden movements, and his ear was very gunged up now. We realised very quckly that he had an ear infection. We used some ear drops from a pet store to see him through till his vet visit. He has been given ear drops from the vet that will have more effect, but she couldn't examine his ear internally as it is so inflamed. So we're unsure if he got anything into his ear while trawling through bushes & long grass or ? ear mites. He will visit the vet again next week, so fingers crossed it will be better by then.
The poor boy has been seeking comfort & wakening us up at night by trying to get into our bed for cuddles!!! BUT he has still been VERY keen for his walks and still first to get to the back door!!! What a laddie!!
The prescribed ear drops worked very quickly and helped clear up Max's ear infection very rapidly. He has now got a prescribed ear cleaning solution which has been really clearing out the gunge!!! It's not a nice job cleaning up the splashes after he's had a good old head shake - Yuk!!
Just out of interest, what was the ear cleaner you got prescribed for Max?. Zada got LEO ear cleaner at the vets when we first got her and it was great, but as you said the mess to clean up after the headshake - yuck!!!
