Just wondered if anyone else's pooches had any problems after eating pigs ears?  On Sunday at my work we had a big tub of pigs ears so all the staff dogs were given one each. The next day Eva and Millie were fine but Toby was really sick. He is about 13 yrs old and really quite fit for his age but he really looked on deaths door on Monday!


He was really sick, drooling, skits and really smelly breathe! I rushed him to the vets and on the way, my friend phoned me to say her dog had been really ill after the pigs ear too so we wreckon thats what caused the problem! My other 2 as i say were absoloutly fine but i can safely say i wont be giving them pigs ears again (shame as they love them)!


Toby is fine now, he got an anti-sickness jag and some canikur  tablets to settle his tummy and he is back to normal now! (thank goodness)

Poor Toby hope he is feeling better soon ,our dog Bovril had a pigs ear a few months ago it congealed in his belly what a night we put in he was retching and very unsettled , emergency trip to vets on the sunday was given tranquilisers which relaxed him enough to bring the rest up (disgusting )  he has not or will not be having pigs ears ever again!! (vets bill £65) most expensive pigs ears. Hugs to Toby denise Bovs mum.

That sounds like what happened to Toby


My vet bill was £46, thankfully he is better now.

Poor Toby, after reading about Bovril I decided no pigs ears for mine either. I stick with sardines!

Cas and Sasha are exactly the same with pigs ears, they make them ill the collies love them.

Mac and the pups all love pigs ears, but I stopped buying them after Mac had a very unsettled night and cried a lot.  Trouble is I didnt put it down to the pigs ear at the time and just let Mac out several times during the night for the loo.  It was the following day I remembered that it was probably the pigs ear that had upset his tum and that was the last one he got.  I buy them Pork Rolls as a treat now, they all love them just as much and they last about 45 seconds longer too.

Yup, same here. Pearly doesn't react as badly as that but she gets the squits after eating pigs ears. We've never given Harry one as there seems no point in tempting fate.

We bought a box of pig's ears from Costco before this thread started. Daz has had two and been ok.  But today I bought him a bone from Pets at Home and Daz has had really bad tummy.  He LOVED that bone but I guess it's going in the bin now.  I've confiscated it anyway because he wanted to take it anywhere in the house with him that he went, that was before I found out it had upset his gut.

Mine get a pig's ear every day, not had any probs with them, although have had to think twice about giving them raw bones - whilst excellent for teeth, can upset their tums and just makes them poo a lot! I don't given them any type of cooked bone i/e/ those smoked bones in the pet shop with fillings, as they are not natural.

As far as I could tell this was an ordinary roast bone, looked VERY natural, (and smelt it too!  )But I knew Rachel gave us a bone he'd had when he came home with us from her kennels so I was kind of using that as a guideline for something I knew he had liked.  I don't think I'll do it again though which is a shame as he did love it very much.

The problem with roast bones as well is that they are cooked - this is usually inadvisable because cooked bones of any type can splinter causing choking, internal injuries etc. I also find the roast bones seem to be somehow very greasy and would deffo give mine the runs.

Maybe it's because my 4 are used to them but I never have any problems but when I say used to them they have an ear every morning after breakfast

I guess it really depends on the dog, our mob get an ear each before bedtime and they love em never had any problems!..
