Big Presley made his big debut at the novice training class tonight, run by Viv, at Cambuslang. He didnt embarrass me as much as I thought he would....(except when he tried to steal all Viv's hotdogs), but as he was the youngest in the Greyhound class at only 7 months I do have an excuse. I think Presley is going to 'grow up' a lot through the training.....(well I hope he will).......he was great in the car, wasnt too upset at being taken away from his wee girlfriend at home, and was so sleepy when he came home!
First part of our homework is 'Leave it' which Presley thinks is his name...and like all puppies he totally ignores that word!!
ooohhhh!!! bless him Dawn!! I remember Murphs puppy classes - he had everyone in stitches as he wouldnt sit (more like sprawl out flat at every opportunity) & his brakes on a wooden floor were poor to nil....so jealous you have a class of hound lovers & a teacher who loves & understands them to boot....Murf 'failed' his pup class coz of the above...the teacher asked me if we would like to resist the 8wk course & I told him where to stick his poo bags....
All the best to the wee man - bet hes not so 'wee' now tho!!

Today i bought one of these clickers from the pet shop so i have been trying to teach Millie the "leave it" command all day. She is getting better and leaves her treat till you tell her to get it but the minute i try give Eva or Toby their treat Millie tries to grab it and eat their's too. She obviously hasnt grasped the fact she has to leave her's and theirs. Im sure the penny will drop eventually lol

We have covered quite a lot in our 3 weeks, including 'leave it', stay, and touch. Presley still has a long way to go, but I was amazed to see just how quickly he picked these things up. He learned 'leave it' in the first week, (but wouldnt trust him just yet with a cooked chicken!), he learned 'stay' in the 2nd week, but in order to do his bronze award he has to stay for 1 minute, so that will take a bit of work! Last Thursday we did 'touch'.
Everyone in the class gets a chance to have a few shots under the supervision of Viv, but its down to you to continue the training at home, and hopefully by the following week the dog will have cracked it. I let Presley out the back to play with his wee buddie when we came home from training, and I called 'Touch'..............Presley came running into the kitchen at 100mph......and this wasnt chance he has answered to Touch ever since! (Proud Mum). Only trouble is......Mac has also been to Viv's taining class, and I have a clear glass door into the kitchen. When I shout Touch.....Presley runs from the garden to the kitchen, and Mac runs from where he happens to be in the house to the kitchen!!!!!! But I can only be one side of the door at a time!
Dawn, Mac (stuck on the wrong side of the glass) Presley, Den and the little one x
What a dilemma, Dawn, with your 'Touch' command! I'm looking forward to hearing how Presley gets on in his classes. He did very well on the walk today with Katrina. We joined them on their way back and Presley behaved really well! He's lovely.

Thank you Christine for your kind words, makes me feel so proud of him, making all the hard work worth it.
He seems to be better behaved with other people than he is with me, and he even seemed a bit reluctant to leave Katrina and her dogs at the end of the walk......he had a great time
Sadly havent managed to do much with the big fella this week , due to work committments, but hey, he is such a star I am sure he will do his bit tomorrow night!! xx
I had to confess tonight that I havent done a lot of homework on the training front with Presley.........but I shouldnt have worried, Presley has the memory of an elephant and was such a good boy. He loves doing all the training and was v reluctant (again) to sit quietly and let the others have a go!
Sadly, the wind is going to be taken out of his sails tomorrow.......he is getting neutered !!! Wee soul!!
Big hugs to Presley for his op today. Hope all goes well and the wee man is back with you very soon. Pearly sends a snuffly kissy and Harry sends a manly pat on the back.
Good Luck Presley..... we all have our legs, fingers and toes crossed for you. We loved walking you at Strathy Park...... what an inquisitive little angel you are.
Katrina, this made me smile, as I had just come off the phone from the vet!
When I telephoned the vet to see how he was, she went very quiet... and said "Oh..em..eh..oh..right.... hold on, I'll just get the vet"! Needless to say, I feared the worse.
The vet came on almost laughing, I certainly detected a s****......
She said I know you said Presley was a bit of a handful and we should watch him, but we didnt watch him carefully enough! I only turned my back for a minute and he managed to chew through his lead and his harness!!! Apart from that he is doing great and looks like butter wouldnt melt in his mouth!
A big thank you for all his kind wishes and hugs.....he has been sleeping quietly all night....never heard him so quiet!
Suzanne, I forget that you havent seen him for a while...he is nearly as big as Mac, but still to fatten out. He weighed in just over 22kgs today...12 heavier than when I first got him! He still looks as daft as he looked when you last saw him, but now walking around on stilts!
He got another surprise today....not that he really cares at the moment.. but, he was chipped to my address not GAL's, so its official that he is now part of my ever growing family!!!
Before I took him to the vet this morning Denzel was sitting on the doorstep and as Presley bent down towards him, Denzel stretched up and I could have sworn Den gave him a kiss That was the first time they have met up so close. Confirmation that I cannot let him go.
Doesnt time fly when you are enjoying yourself? Last night was the end of Presley's beginners training class.......he missed last week because I was caught up with a transport job......so, as punishment to his mum for not taking him last week, he just acted like the 'Class Clown' for the best part of the evening and wouldnt do anything right. Thanks Presley!
He was doing so well at home with his 'stays'......well up to 15 seconds before he got fed up waiting.....15 seconds is a long time when you are a puppy waiting for a treat! (my other 'little one', who is a month younger than Presley, managed a 30 second stay, before the Class Clown decided to barge in and disrupt the whole thing!)
One thing he did love last night was the 'target training'. Viv had him doing all sorts following the target!! I must invest in one of those target sticks....and see if I can transform this unruly monster into a perfect pup!
The goodnews is that his next training class begins a week on Thursday, so I will have to try and get him to stay for more than 15 seconds
