Lurchers - more to insure
Permalink Closed

I had heard that Lurchers may cost more to insure becuase they are classed as a working dogs.  Is this true?

(Fiona - before you ask - no - we ain't having a third one!)

not heard of that one Steve - Maisie was slightly less to insure than Murphy through Direct Line....why Im not sure - same age etc...

might be something to do with the fact that your crossbreeds are usually healthier dogs than purebreeds...??? dunno....

I think it's the other way around i.e. Greyhounds are more to insure than lurchers cos Greyhounds are classed as 'pedigree'...

I am a qualified Pet Plan Insurance Advisor (ha ha! What a joke, all I did was answer a PetPlan multiple choice thing at work and I got a certificate and badge etc) Anyway, I only know the Petplan forms, but if you tick pedigree and write a breed in the box the insurance costs more per month and with certain breeds that have knackered hips etc and other hereditary problems it costs even more. I have a lurcher and it costs me less than if I had a pure greyhound purley because I ticked crossbreed and not pedigree.

I have been shopping around recently to change my insurance and near enough every form asks if your dog is used for working, security puropses etc. I have found, however.that its much dearer to insure Angus cos hes a greyhound. And for peoples information, so far tesco is the cheapest but not finished yet.....
